I only watch GOT when their is a free weekend of HBO, so I am way behind.

Just watched the 1st two episodes of the final half season and is it me or has the writing gone right in the toilet, the dialogue is terrible and super simplistic.

I'll play out the string but this show stinks.

All I heard was the last episode is terrible.

My kid plays travel ball, so it's true, I am poor.

I cannot be considered cool either as I am over 50.

Sorry I hurt your feelings....are you one of the writers?

The showrunners had a deal with Disney to create the next Star Wars trilogy (after TRoS), mentally checked out on GOT, and rushed the final season. Ultimately it backfired on them because the final GOT season sucked so bad that they ending up losing the Star Wars trilogy

Should've been two seasons but it was rushed. Disappointing after years of awesome storytelling.

I binged watched all of it for the first time after the series was over, mostly avoiding spoilers even though I had read the first two books years before if that makes sense. I didn't have the disappointment that others had with the last season. I actually think episode 3 is one of the best episodes of TV ever produced.

George RR Martin may as well be dead, since it looks like he'll never finish the sixth book much less the seventh.

From what I understand most of the story leading up to the last season went pretty much right off Martin's books.

But Martins books aren't done yet and he's yet to really say the story being told in the shows final season. So the writers and show runners had to make up their own ending rather than lean on what Martin had given them in previous seasons. They obviously couldn't compare to what Martin was when telling this story and it shows.

I actually do not think the entire season is awful but its certainly not as good. I do however think the final resolution to the show was pretty poor.

The last season was one of the most disappointing things I've ever seen. To the point where I won't even bother watching the previous seasons.

Everything stopped making sense, character development was thrown out the window, all the things the series had been building towards didn't matter and the end was just terrible. It was just bad.

I won't spoil anything but after each episode there was a behind the scenes look with the writers of the episodes D&D, and they always just made it so much worse. Example: "She kinda just forgot about them".

I just finished the entire series 2 wks ago. Seasons 1 thru 4 were some of the best writing, acting and directing I've ever seen. Seasons 5 and 6 held up really , really well and was strong into the last episode of S6.

S7 started tapering off but had some good episodes.

S8 was utter garbage and completely ruined what should have been the best series ever brought to film.

Great point on the "throwing character development" out the window aspect. The Jaime story arc was so good for near the entire show, then in S8 it just u-turned into a fire. Very disappointed with that one.

The last season can sort of be salvaged if you skip the last 2 episodes. Dont ever watch them.

Agreed. I have watched each episode of seasons 1-7 at least twice, and watched season 8 except for the last episode and feel much better than sitting though that sack of flaming garbage of a finale.

The last season is the weakest but I thought the second episode was one of the best of the series.

Watch episodes 1 & 2 of the final season and quit on a cliff hanger. I thought episode 2 was a classic.

Its not only that its rushed like cliff notes, but its actually more the horrendous storytelling. If you want to have Dany flip out you could have done at least a few things to actually make it plausible.

I can't even get into this anymore, much like the new Star Wars movies destroyed my SW love, this season crapped on my caring for anything GoT related again. Definitely don't care about the prequel.

At least SW gave me Mandalorian to get excited again.

Settle down there, Old Person. You didn't hurt his feelings. That was expressing concern for someone that doesn't realize what's about to happen. There's a reason that rewatching Game of Thrones was on no one's list when we went into COVID lockdown. The writers absolutely destroyed the entire franchise with that abomination of an ending. "Sweet summer child" is a Game of Thrones expression for young people who have luckily not experienced true pain yet.

.

1) Watches and does not bat an eye when her own brother is being burned alive by molten gold.
2) Makes a deal with the merchants - dragons for Unsullied, then goes back on the deal and butchers every last one of them.
3) Crucifies the Wise Masters of Mereen
4) Burns the Dothraki Lords alive when she could have easily just walked out the door.
5) Annihilates every single man in the Lannister army during the attack on the loot train
6) Murders Randall and Dickon Tarly when she could have taken them prisoner.
7) Tries to put Jamie Lannister on trial for murdering her psycho dad when he shows up at Winterfell

Yeah she wasn't merciful but she at least had a reason for the previous murders. She slaughtered thousands of innocents that had absolutely nothing to do with the Lannisters or the war.

When did her character arc set her up for murdering women and children?

Just recently rewatched. The turning point to me is when she comes back to Jon after the Long Night and he turns her down. Previously, Tyrion and she had a conversation that she didn't have to rule with fear, she could rule by inspiring people. She then sits through the remaining army celebrating the white walkers and giving Jon Snow more attention than to her for the win. She looks at him and says, "fear it is then."

It's not intuitional but any means, but I do think they tried.

That's what escalation is, dude. She kills the owners of the Unsullied to free the slaves. Those dudes had been living by that system for centuries. Every one of those guys deserved to die?

Crucifies the Wise Masters - not just killing them, killing them in the most painful way possible.

Murders the Dothraki - a lot of whom probably were at her wedding and fought for Khal Drogo. All those dudes are probably fathers and husbands and sons. They all deserved to die?

I guarantee you not every dude in the Lannister Loot Train was a soldier. I'm the guy who feeds and waters the horses. That dude's the cook. This guy is an accountant who handles how much treasure they got from Highgarden. They all are the same? ALL LANNISTERS. Burn them all, right Aerys?

Randall and Dickon Tarly - following orders from their liege lord. They surrender. Surrender? THEY ARE WEARING LANNISTER COLORS. Burn them all! Right, Aerys?

King's Landing - your family built these walls and this city, your ancestors sat the Iron Throne for 200 years until this MoFo Baratheon took it from them, but he's already dead. But who killed your father? A LANNISTER. Whose orders saw your mother raped and your siblings murdered? A LANNISTER. Who ordered the death of your beloved servant and friend in front of your eyes. A LANNISTER. Whose flags fly on every tower in this whole stinking city? THE LANNISTERS. Your father was right, he had the right idea when he was going to unleash the wildfire before that ******* KINGSLAYER killed him. The whole city carries their stink. Time to start over. They've all been living in this city for YEARS. The city your ancestors built and made beautiful - they should be welcoming you home as a hero, not fighting against you. The whole place is run by the LANNISTERS. The whole city stinks of LANNISTER. Only one solution - start completely over. BURN THEM ALL, DROGON.

Right, Aerys?

I was surprised it took so long for Dany to go crazy. Felt like they were setting it up the whole series. All sorts of crazy stuff going on in that girl's head.

" madness and greatness are two sides of the same coin. Every time a new Targaryen is born, he said, the gods toss the coin in the air and the world holds its breath to see how it will land."

Well, that quote was intended to describe the difference between her and Viserys.
It's possible Martin intends for the same end result to happen, but I don't think it likely.
Or rather, I imagine some things along the way will occur very differently.

At one point I read that Martin gave them a lot of the facts of how he plans for things to play out, but I have to believe that (a) B&W really didn't understand a lot of the "why", and (b) there is a lot more groundwork to lay for it all to make sense. And probably part of the reason it's taking so long to write the books is that Martin is having to figure all this stuff out and change things as he writes, and that's not easy.

That and the fact that he's not actually working on them.

You don't have any idea what you are talking about, there was a post from "Fat Bib Fortuna" that basically said I was pretending not to know about GOT's last season because I think I am cool...also that I am lol poor since I cannot afford the $15 for HBO. It also insulted my writing skills. That post got deleted for some reason, I didn't complain about it so no clue why it's gone.

I wasn't responding to Cola.
