My wife and I are about to leave on a road trip and looking for some good new/recent podcasts to listen to. Any recommendations, with a brief synopsis or explanation? Thanks!

Missing in Alaska on iHeartRadio.

Long before the mysterious disappearance of Malaysia Flight 370, the disappearance of a twin-engine Cessna 310 in Alaska carrying two U.S. congressmen captured the headlines. The plane went down in Alaska in October 1972 during a rain storm, and nearly five decades later the cause of the crash and the plane's location remain a mystery, despite a 39-day search that's said to have been the largest in U.S. history. And as the new iHeartPodcast Network show Missing In Alaska lays out, there are more questions than ever about what really happened to Reps. Hale Boggs (D-LA) and Nick Begich (D-AK), the pilot and a political aide, after they boarded a plane traveling from Anchorage to Juneau on a campaign swing for Alaska's only congressman.

Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend. Conan interviewing celebrities (for the most part A listers). It's top notch and some of the hardest I've laughed from any late night stuff (even tho technically it's not). Listen to them all, but the ones that stick out to me are: Bob Newhart, Timothy Oliphant (sp?), Mila Kunis, Amy Sedaris, Dana Carvey.

Crime Town on Spotify.

Each season they spotlight a city's crime history. Season 1 is Providence and Season 2 is Detroit. As each season progresses the stories tie into each other in unique ways. I enjoyed Season 1 more, but they are both great listens.

If you're into history, I highly recommend Revisionist History by Malcolm Gladwell. He goes back and finds an event or person in history and how it/they have been overlooked or misunderstood. Really interesting stuff. Episodes are 45ish min and cover various topics like napalm strikes, CIA secret agents, and Elvis.

I'd recommend Bear Brook - it's another murder mystery podcast.

You can listen to the trailer <<<HERE>>>

We listened to this on the way up to Illinois and it helped the trip fly by.

Enjoy!

I have grown up with Conan, from the Late night days until today. I find him to be one of the funniest human being in the world, and he doesn't get overly political (nearly not at all). He also seems to actually be like someone like Ellen pretends to be. All of his staff seem to love him and so many of worked on his show for over a decade. Hell, his assistant, who is on the podcast, has worked for him for 8 years or so.

I will always support Conan, wherever he goes. If there was a Mt Rushmore of late night hosts, Conan would be on it, right next to Letterman.

His podcast is one of the few that I find myself laughing out loud when listening to. However, I can understand that Conan is not everyone's cup of tea. His is also the only podcast where I listen to the advertisements because they are so funny.

My contribution to the thread would actually be a good audiobook.

Echo Conan Needs a Friend and Revisionist History, those are awesome. I really like Dax Shepherd's podcast Armchair Expert as well. Interesting celeb guests as well as a ton of scientists, authors, industry exec types. Think he's a really good interviewer.

Tom Brown's Body - It's put out by Texas Monthly and done by Skip Hollandsworth. If you are looking for a murder/suicide? mystery podcast that's well done. I'd recommend it.

An 18-year-old high school senior doesn't come home. A couple of years later his bones are found. You know, a lotta ins, lotta outs, lotta what-have-you's. Whatever happened it's strange and very mysterious.

Wind of Change - an investigation podcast that looks into whether the CIA wrote the Scorpion's song Wind of Change. Looks at past CIA cultural involvement and digs into rock music and the fall of communism. I found it super interesting.

Tenfold More Wicked. A new Exactly Right podcast whose first season is about the life and crimes of Edward Rulloff, a doctor, lawyer, schoolmaster, photographer, inventor, phrenologist and philologist who was also a criminal and serial killer.

Do No Harm. A Wondery podcast about families who get trapped in the CPS system and how it completely changes their lives. It's really well done and an absolutely harrowing story. Will have you on the edge of your seat.

Bananas. An Exactly Right podcast with comedians Kurt Braunohler and Scotty Landes and guests to discuss weird current news. It's just a delight and an easy, funny listen.

Dr. Death. A Wondery podcast about doctors who do much more harm than good. There are two seasons of this already and the first season is about a neurosurgeon in Dallas.

And +1 for Tom Brown's Body from Texas Monthly. I really hope some new information is uncovered because this is just a heartbreaking story.

No Agenda. Best podcast in the universe!

Adam Curry is the inventor of podcasting otherwise known as the podfather and John Dvorak is a former tech columnist.

They break down the news and do a lot of good research. Both are center leaning and pretty funny as well. Everyone I've recommended this to ends up loving it.

In the Dark S2. Good wrongfully accused story with some current events, likely triggered by the podcast, to finish it strongly. Host is a bit annoying, but not too bad.
