Are there any good WW2 movies that are about the Italian or African campaigns? Most everything you see is either german or Pacific, so I was just wondering if anyone had any recommendations.

Since this is on the Entertainment board and not the History board, I'll have to say I love both of these movies. Each of them is great standalone, but sequentially they are nice as well. And, it's neither Italy nor Africa, but Greece, so somewhere off the beaten path for typical WW2 stuff.

- Guns of Navarone
- Force 10 from Navarone

Good choices above with the Navarone pair.

Some other suggestions:

Anzio (Allied Invasion of Italy)
Sahara - North African Campaign story w/ Humphrey Bogart
The Desert Fox
Raid on Rommel
The Devil's Brigade

If you have Amazon Prime- El Alamein The Line of Fire is a damn fine flick about Italians fighting the British in the African Desert. Great flick. Subtitles.

Both Netflix and Amazon Prime have some Russian vs German movies. Most are Russian Armor vs German Panzer and in subtitles. Can't recall the name of the movies (it's been several months) but three or four were pretty good. They also have a few Russian snipers in WWII that are worth watching.

Patton
To Hell and Back
The Devils Brigade

If you're into love stories there's:
Captain Correlis Mandolin
The English Patient

Also I second the above poster. Amazon prime has lots of pretty random stuff. Lots of foreign films too. Give that a look

Agree. This is a good movie. Poignant and well-acted.

Another is Five Graves to Cairo (1943) with Erich von Stroheim chewing up the scenery as Rommel.

Miracle at St. Anna

Not the greatest flick ever but it's the genre you asked for.

Some of the early parts of Valkyrie are set in North Africa.

Already referenced The Desert Fox and Patton.

The Battle of El Alamein (1969)
Raid on Rommel (1971)
Tobruk (1967)

If you are looking for a movie not centered around combat, Two Women with Sophia Loren is very good.

I liked the one where they took the oldest enlisted guys in the whole army and put them all in the same tank.

I loved the old TV series Rat Patrol as a kid (in reruns, I'm old but not that old). I'm not sure where you might be able to find it today and have absolutely no idea how true actual events or combat in North Africa.

Tuntematon sotilas (The Unknown Soldier) and Talvisota (The Winter War) are great movies about the wars between the Finns and the Soviets.

Thanks for the recs! I didn't realize there was as much coverage as there was on these other areas of the war.

Still, for as much attention they have poured into the main two theatres of the war, you would think there would be an opportunity for a big budget retelling of these other campaigns.
