Any experience with getting rid of cable and going with something like SlingTV or YouTubeTV? I'm mainly interested in if it negatively impacted the availability of live sporting events and if there was any downgrade in image quality after making the switch. Thanks

Just about to do it with FuboTV. I can finally get ATT Sports Net off of cable so I won't miss my Astros and Rockets.

I need to be able to watch college footbal and basketball on any channel I want and need to have the ability to pause, record, rewind, etc.

And I don't want to have to subscribe to several different streaming services to do it.

I cut the cord (cable and satellite) 17 years ago. I gave up some sports back then, but I've saved around $20,000 in that time, plus the family spends a little less time around the boob tube than most. How important is live sports to you? I realized I could survive on what I could find with an antenna and I'm a Netflix OG.

I have Youtube TV and get the 4 broadcast networks. ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN News, SEC Network, BIG10 Network, NBC Sports, CBS Sports, FS1, FS2, Fox Sports Southwet and will be getting the ACC Network when it goes live later this month. WIth youtube tv you also can authenticate the apps for ESPN, Fox Sports, CBS and NBC Sports, as its always good to have a backup. You also get NBA TV, MLB TV, Golf channel, Tennis channel and the Olympic Channel.

You do not get the NFL Network though.

Yes, how do you do this? Ive got the MLB.tv for Astros but how are you doing it for the Rockets?

If you plan on getting the Disney+ channel, consider getting the bundle of Disney+/Hulu/ESPN+. You basically get all 3 for the price of 2 (Nov 12 Disney+ goes live). With ESPN+ you pick up a lot of Soccer, some UFC, Top Ranked Boxing and some other sports.

OP, the streaming services all have free trial periods (usually about a week), so you can try and cancel before the end of the trial. If you are an aggie sports fan(need ESPN) skip Fubo as it does not have ESPN suites. Youtube TV is great. Sling/PS Vue both have NFL Network but Sling can be spotty on Local Networks and the picture is not as good as Youtube TV. PS Vue is supposedly really good.

If you choose a service that doesn't have all the broadcast networks, check out an antenna, to see if you are in range. If you decide to go that route, there are several products, TABLO is one, that can run the antenna reception though your network so you can see on any TV and even dvr shows.

I've had PS Vue for years with the sports package, no regrets. I don't live in Houston anymore but with mlb.tv I get all the games I want to watch. If you use direct tv streaming platform you can get Sunday ticket, when the streaming rights come up soon I'd bet Amazon ends up with them exclusively.

Even though there is no NFL Network on YouTubeTV, select Thursday night games are on Fox and some on Amazon Prime.

I have PSVue and might change soon due to cost.

HuluLive gives you Hulu's database. Also, it is owned by Disney. There are already discussions of Disney providing package deals for Hulu, Disney+, and EspnPlus. I would bet there will be packages to include Live and the rest of ESPN.

Add your internet provider. I have a plan at 50mb which is plenty. My plan is $65 in my area. If you live in an area with many choices, this could be much less.

FYI, none of these solutions actually "cut the cord as you still have an expensive cord called an internet connection. The only true "cord cutting is OTA antennas".

It will be interesting to see as subscriptions to the items mentioned increase and start approaching cable/sat tates how quickly prices rise to current levels.

The other thing to watch will be if Apple, YTTV, Google, Amazon and others start bidding for college and pro sports (as they have hinted at), how the landscape might change. There is talk of different networks coming those various mediums. Could get very convoluted to get all of the games you are interested in.

5G networks will be the great equalizer of internet costs in the coming years. When multiple providers have wireless networks that cover entire cities, they'll all have to compete with each other for every subscriber. No more relying on whichever ISP happened to lay the cables in your neighborhood to determine your internet options.

And to OP, im on PSVue now, and it's great. Very sharp picture.

You make a good point, but I believe once we all get hooked on 5G they will raise the prices- always happens.

This is what I'm going to do. Just need to pull the trigger as I'm out of contract now with DTV. For some reason, I have an irrational fear of change with this particular scenario when I usually wouldn't think twice.

Also, 5G is fake news. I wouldn't count on that for years.

I have YouTube TV, and it's amazing for live sports. I stream through Chromecast. I've heard that Hulu TV is also good, but multiple friends went away from it due to lagging issues during high-volume events (football games).

I have Hulu+Live Tv
Netflix
Amazon prime
HBO Go

But I had Netflix, amazon prime and regular Hulu before along with cable. So my only added cost was $38 for Hulu Live and the HBO Go I get free.

And I would always have amazon prime anyway I order everything through them. So I don't really count it as a cost for a streaming service. It's more like a bonus with my shipping service.

I get HBO Go for free thru ATT wireless service.

I have every sports channel I really want. All locals plus ESPN and 2 and U and SEC and FS 1 and 2 and BTN and CBSSN and NBCSN and Golf and Olympic and TBS TNT AND TruTV for tourney time. Plus it has cloud DVR.

If you already have Hulu and can get the HBO for free and already have Amazon prime it really can't be beat. Only $38 more for the Live stuff. And I cut the cable cost from like 130 per month. My internet is $45 per month for 200GB which has been plenty even for al streaming me the kids and the wife on multiple devices.

Thanks for the input. I have my two-week trial for youtubetv going as of about 30 minutes ago.

I'm using the Xbox one as the interface for now, but If I decide to keep YouTube tv I think I will get a Roku so I can have the tv remote type controller.

I have Hulu like I said but the Roku stick is great as a device. Remote controls tv power and volume easily and has buttons that go to some services directly. Like mine has Netflix and ESPN and Hulu buttons. I've seen some with other buttons but I'm not sure how to get different ones. Maybe eBay. Not sure I've ever seen any with YT button but regardless it's not that hard to to Home and then the app of your service.

Anyway yes to Roku regardless of service. My wife is tech averse and easily frustrated and she could not operate Apple TV remote at all. But she got the roku pretty quick.

I think most people these days have 3-6 cords whether they have cable or not.

When I had cable I also had Amazon Prime primarily for the shipping, plus Netflix, Hulu, and HBO tacked onto my cable package. So that's five "cords" I was paying for in addition to internet anyway.

All I did when I "cut the cord" was swap the cable tv package cord for a streaming service cord that cost ~$100/mo. less than my tv package did and still has everything I actually want.

Call it what you want. All I know is that I'm getting the channels I want for about $80 less per month.

Lol documentation. I cancelled etc via a chat window and told them I was going towards streaming and not interested in dtv now. Easy

I called to cancel my cable TV and phone with Suddenlink and upgrade to the 400 Mbps/unlimited internet plan. The Suddenlink rep tried to sell me on staying with cable TV instead of going to YouTube TV by saying, "Our cable TV is very reliable, and with streaming you sometimes have issues." I responded with, "Well, I hope YOUR internet service is reliable then!"

I cut the cord yesterday with Comcast and couldn't be happier.

Loving my youtubetv sub so far. Only issue is using the Xbox one as the controller, and that will be remedied as soon as I get a Roku. I probably would have already kicked directv to the curb, but I have some stuff on my Dvr I want to watch first.

This is going to save me about $100 a month, and I won't have to deal with weather issues. It's all upside from everything I can see.
