I thought this might be the place to ask if some of the resident musicians/songwriters recognize that name. He supposedly played/toured with Glen Campbell as well as performed on his own for many years from the 1960's forward. A quick web search turned up nothing. Thanks!

Don't know the name but I'm mildly curious to know the story or what prompted the question.

There was an older fellow at the post office in my little town yesterday that was in full on entertainment mode. He had a personality that makes you want to stop what you're doing and listen to him. He got to talking about guitar playing and how he used to play with Glen Campbell. I could put a good down payment on a house with all the gold and diamonds on his rings and watch. He had a ruby on one ring that would choke a horse. As we walked out to his truck, he talked about song writing, being on Carson, and other entertainers he performed with.

I'm inclined to believe the guy. Nothing about the guy seemed dishonest, just matter of fact stories about his life. After going on about more details in his life, I decided I wanted to hear whatever stories he would tell me. I invited him over for coffee so I could hear more of his stories. He said if he made it over to the house, he'd bring one of the guitars that Campbell gave him and play for my daughter.

Whether he's who he claims to be, or not, his stories are really entertaining. I hope I get to visit with him again!

I always enjoy listening to those old characters talk.

Couldn't find anything on him, but that doesn't mean anything. Plenty of good musicians have played backup and played clubs on their own without leaving much of a breadcrumb trail in news archives.

He said Robert Blake's (Berreta) parrot crapped on his shoulder when he was on The Tonight Show. Carson gave one of his personal jackets to wear as a replacement. He says he still has the coat with Carson's name inside it and that he wears it now and then for fun, although its too tight around the middle now.

God, why did I have to see this thread on a holiday weekend....

Clyde has no credits I can find on any Glen Campbell album from 1970 to 1988.

With insomnia in full tilt, i dove into guest logs for the Tonight Show, since he referenced being on the Show with Robert Blake and his bird Fred (named La-La in real life, by the way, and not owned by Blake).

Robert Blake was in the frequent/regular guest rotation on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson from 1972-82. Besides the Barreta fame of the day, I can attribute this to him having been a known commodity as a child actor on the My Gang/ Little Rascals shorts, and to obviously being an entertaining guest. His highest number of appearances was 12 in 1974. The show Barreta ran from 1975-79, so I have to think an appearance with the bird would have occurred during this timeframe.

The logs show musical guests. Clyde is nowhere to be seen. He is also listed nowhere as a session musician in Doc Severinson's orchestra, or subsequent iterations after Carson's departure.

It appears you encountered a nice gentleman telling tall tales. Sorry.

Now, goodnight. Pretty sure I'll be able to sleep tonight.

I went back and looked at the "Wrecking Crew" which was the name given to the session musicians used by The Beach Boys, Phil Spector , etc. in the 60's.

Glen Campbell and Leon Russel were considered members but I found no reference to Clyde Chapman.

I looked at every musician on every album GC did and I saw no reference to Clyde.

Keep us updated, I am intrigued as well.

Thanks, guys! This is why I thought of y'all after I met the guy. Regardless of who he is, he apparently has a load of stories. It's a small town and I'll be watching for him. I'll update this post if I'm able to visit with him.
