Made its debut June 12, 1981. 35 years ago today and still holds as one of the best action adventure movies of all time.

The only movie I ever saw in a theater with my dad, and it was a heck of a fun movie. We saw it in 1981 in a little theater in La Grange that had old, wooden seats.

Big Bang theory kinda took some luster off the movie for me.

Still awesome though.

Did she say it in a strangely monotone voice, with numerous lengthy pauses for no apparent reason?

I don't think the movie has aged well at all. I loved it as a kid but get bored watching it as an adult. I want to enjoy it like I used to but I just find it kind of meh. I don't feel the same for Star Wars, Jaws, Back to the Future or Ghostbusters which I still love so many years later.

I still love Raiders. From the first time I saw it on this day in 1981 to the most recent time I saw it in a theater, that movie has definitely held up for me over all those years. I first saw it at the old Palms Twin (no longer exists) in Sugar Land, TX. Most recently I saw it again as part of a day-long marathon of all the Indy movies, again in Sugar Land at the First Colony theater (on a day when Johnny was leading the Aggies to a win over SMU in 2012; so Indy is one of a very few things that has taken me away from Aggie football).

Still remember 10 YO Aglaw seeing the trailer for Raiders and dismissing it as a James Bond ripoff.

Still a great movie & Triolgy, favorite. Looking forward to Indy 5.

Last Crusade is my favorite.

Raiders has my favorite chase scene of all time. The music going from adventure to suspense after the gunshot always gives me goosebumps.

As bad as the concept was, the execution was far worse. The basic idea of the movie could have worked if not for Mutt Tarzaning through trees and refrigerator bomb shelters and what was one of Ford's most uninspired performances ever.

Aliens aren't necessarily a dealbreaker, imo. They fit the genre and time period. "Saucer men" were the subject of some very early Indy proposals. I think you could write a good movie on that basis, but Crystal Skull sure wasn't it.

And didn't Indy and Sallad choose to take the Ark across the Med instead of down the Red Sea, thus providing the Nazis the opportunity to take it to their secret island for the pre-delivery test opening?


Just for laughs, anyone have any theories on how Indy and Marion got the Ark off a secret Nazi uboat and supply island and delivered it to be hidden in the warehouse?
