This got some pretty rave reviews out of Sundance. Love the cast/concept, and the trailer is solid. Really looking forward to this one.

Z for Zachariah hits theaters in limited release on August 21.

I'll be disappointed if there's not a margarita pool.

Definitely had a Last Man on Earth feeling... except not funny... or at least not trying to be funny.

Did anybody else have to read this in school? I think it was 6th grade for me... It was definitely one of the most resonant books from my youth. Stuck with me for a long time...

Trying to remember though, isn't the girl in the book like 13?

Whoa, this is based on a book? I seriously had no idea.

Yep. I was kinda surprised there was no mention of it yet, and it seemed like nobody knew... I honestly thought it and The Giver were required reading for all junior high kids.

By the way The Giver film was just terrible

That's was my first thought. I read the book.. Interesting read, but there were only 2 characters.

Loved this book.

Not a good book. Plus, why'd they add another character? Racial quota...?

Maybe the movie will fix the ending. Oh, and the part with the dog.

Chris Pine is the added character. Don't remember whether the book specifies Chiwetel Ejiofors character's race... Don't think it matters.

While I don't quite remember the details, it does seem that adding a third character really does change the entire story and themes completely. Unless I'm fuzzy on the details, the whole point pretty much revolves around it being just two people, an older guy and a much younger girl.

Exactly. The story really can't be anything close to the same with three. And I was being a bit facetious about the racial thing, but I feel that the old guy was white.
Also, a huge part of the story was that the girl was about 15 and how she reacts to the old guy due to her age. The actress in this looks a whole lot older, which changes pretty much everything she would believably be doing.

In the book the guy ends up possibly being a murderer of a colleague over his safe suit. I wonder if they are using that as rationale for the 3rd character?

I hope Cameron Crowe pretends to be outraged publicly that they would cast a 24 year old Robbie to play a 15 year old character

One of the first post-apocalyptic books I read as a kid (maybe 5th or 6th grade). It wasn't required, but I remember having to get a certain amount of "points" based on the reading level, length, etc. of the books I selected. I tended to read sci-fi, fantasy, and post-apoc, and I still favor them all today. I have a list of these books from childhood (the ones I can remember at least) that I've been seeking out and adding to my library. A few, I even borrowed from A&M's library (children's lit section). It's great to revisit them. Other favorites include the Tripods Trilogy, the Girl Who Owned a City, Virtual Wars, Singularity, etc.

The addition of a third character and the older age of the girl definitely add a twist, but it seems to keep the overall feel. Looking forward to it.

Watched this today. Meh.

I did think Robbie did a good job with the role, but not much there for any of them to work with. Didn't know there was a book, not surprising it's kid lit.
