Anyone remember the first comic they ever bought?

For me, there were two significant comics:

May 1983: Thanks to this first ever commercial for a comic book, I had to go out and pick up this issue (my first comic purchase). I was already collecting the toys, so this advertisement hooked me.

September 1984: Having read the G.I. Joe comics for a year, I decided to give superhero comics a try. Spider-Man was an easy choice as I'd liked him for years (thanks, Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends!). This was the first one I picked up. The black costume was a surprise.

Mine was GI Joe too!

My parents had bought me a ton of Disney comics before that, for summer reading and for car trips. But this was the first one I bought with my own money.

The first superhero comic I bought was:

I remember being shocked that Batman was leaving his pals in the Justice League for the Outsiders!

I don't remember with exact clarity, but if I was forced to bet on it my answer would be X-men #1 (1991):

I had been reading comics for several years thanks to my uncle's awesome collection, and the X-men were always my favorite.

Probably GI Joe #1. Still have a bunch of them.

Beyond that, whatever random mag my mom picked up for me at 7-11. But GI Joe is the first one I remember picking out.

It wasn't until middle school that I matured and started reading serious literature like the Uncanny X-Men.

I can't remember if G.I. Joe was the first I bought, but it was the first I bought and read regularly.

Holy ****, Rogue, pretty sure that Giant sized G.I.Joe issue was my first one as well. After that I really got into Spidey and Daredevil.

Was that 1991?!?!?!

That was my first as well. I have it and the next couple of years worth of X-Men and Captain Americas in a box somewhere.

I was always into superhero cartoons growing up (Batman, Spider-Man, and X-Men) but never got into comics until about a year ago. It was after the Rockets had been eliminated from the playoffs and I didn't want anything to do with sports the rest of the weekend. The next day happened to be Free Comicbook Day and I just hit up some random stores and talked to the store owner and asked about different books. I mentioned that I always thought Aquaman was a joke and he quickly grabbed the New 52 Vol. 1 The Trench and I've been a fan of all comics ever since! Court of Owls or the newest Captain Marvel: Higher, Further, Faster, More are two of my favorites

I had never bought a comic in my life until I was in college and went with my brother in law to the comic shop. I love the X-Men and saw this issue just laying there and thought it looked cool. That led to finding the rest of the Fatal Attractions story line, which led to other stories, which led to more comics than I actually need.

Probably the 3rd or 4th comic I bought. I also collected a lot of baseball, basketball, and football cards, so if you did the same, you knew die-cut was the **** back then. I loved Wolverine and issue #50 was die-cut with his claws. It was my favorite thing ever:

There was a big one volume comic adaptation of RoJ. I still have it, with a faded sticker on the front from whatever pizza place that birthday party was at.

It was something in The Reign of the Superman series. I really liked the cyborg superman.

I collected comics from around 1972 - 1978. I could probably have told you the first one I bought (most likely a Spiderman), except that I gave them all to the maid's kid when I outgrew them. Obviously a really stupid thing to do in hindsight...

Anyway, the only comics I kept were issues 1-18 of this series, since I knew I would eventually join up someday:

dont know what my first ever issue was, but my oldest that I still have today is Daredevil #168 - the first appearance of Elektra and the first comic Frank Miller ever wrote.

I have a few Spider-Man comics from the late 70s and the comic adaptation of 1976 King Kong among many others. They've taken valuble storage space in my attic because I thought they'd be worth a lot of money someday. I was wrong. I should have bought a share of Apple stock as an investment, instead. I enjoy reading them on the can every now and then, though.

I didn't buy it. My dad brought it home for me. Can't remember why.

Also had this one very early on:

Still have it somewhere.

Then I had some Bugs Bunny comics. I used to read and re-read those.

The greatest ones, from my perspective now, were these Christian Comics I got from my neighbor. His dad was a preacher and for his birthday they handed out these comics of familiar comic characters witnessing and testifying for the Lord.

Archie, for example:

Some dropped the pretense of using regular comic book characters to sell the message:

One was about Tom Landry:

I actually really liked that one.

I always wished I read comics when I was younger. It would have lined up exactly with my boyish youth and imagination.

I did have this though:

This one?

I believe this is the oldest X-Men issue I ever bought. Got it at a comic convention for a hefty (for me at the time) price.

One of the reasons I am so into the Marvel movies.

I bought it at that gas station that keeps opening and closing across from what used to be Buddy's Back Yard in New Braunfels.

I've never been big into comic books, I can't hardly make it through graphic novels now.

But I do remember buying a few Groo titles, I think that was the name. They were by Sergio Aragones, the artist for Mad magazine who drew the margin doodles.
