Watched a lot of the top HBO series but I am not currently in the middle of anything. Was going to go through HBO go and start a series I haven't seen. What are your suggestions? I have seen the following:

Sopranos
GoT
The wire
Band of bros
Pacific
Generation kill
Rome
John Adams
Some of true blood (got bored after 2nd or 3rd season)
True detective
Newsroom


I haven't seen but interested in:
Oz
Treme
Boardwalk empire
Deadwood

I don't know much about any of the other series such as 6 feet under, angels in America, carnivale, etc

So how would you rate what I haven't seen?

1. Boardwalk Empire
2. Deadwood (This would be number 1 if HBO hadn't cut it short.)
3. Oz
4. Treme

Season 2 of deadwood killed my wood. Boring and dumb.

On the bright side I found out who the chicken in the bathtub is.

After s2 of boardwalk the show struggled. The Italian dude was a creep and without Jimmy Irish I lost interest.

I think most would say that after season 2 is when it got really, really great. First two seasons were good but a little boring

OZ was great
Deadwood was one of my faves, but cut way short
Loved 6 feet under- think only series I have seen that I actually enjoyed the ending..satisfying

Boardwalk Empire simply because of the sets and costumes alone.


However, Steve Buscemi is so underrated as an actor. He is amazing. So is the guy playing Capone. I hope they actually spin him off into his own series since the next one is the last one.

I found it cliche that nucky had a beef with Italians in season 3, then the writers said which other ethnicity can we use as a villain for s4? It's like a roulette table of villains...

I rather see some NY vs Chi or NJ vs NY. ..but no we get ethnicity X era-appropriate moods X violence = villain de jour.

REALLY wish this was on HBO Go.

Deadwood over boardwalk. I love boardwalk but Deadwood is phenomenal imo.

And count me as someone who, after sitting on it a while, was happy it ended after 3 seasons. If it got a 4th and known final season it would have been great but the way it played out was just a perfect period piece, and a great insight into an era. The style did not lend itself well to a 6 season run.

So I've avoided watching deadwood bc I was worried it would just abruptly end without resolution. Is this not the case?

Deadwood doesn't have an ending that ties the series up in a bow, but the show doesn't really go like that anyway. If you treat it as a temporary look in the life of the town, and don't need a traditional arc to perfectly end, then it works fine.

I think Deadwood's up next for me, followed by Rome.


Also whoever said Vice, I'm right there with you... Vice is one of my favorite shows, absolutely fascinating stuff. Nobody ever talks about it, and I figured TexAgs would probably hate it due to the liberal leanings, but I think it's some of the best and most informative journalism I've ever seen.

Vice is awesome. Even with the biases, people need to get over themselves and realizes everyone has biases and everything they see is shown to them through a lens of someone with biases.

People need to get over themselves and deal with it. They report on very interesting ****. You don't have to agree with everything they say or how they "portray" their opinion of a situation to enjoy it. Maybe(gasp) it'll make you actually take the time to think about it, do your own research and form your own opinion.

But I guess that isn't as easy as being spoon-fed talking points from either side you choose to participate in. No research and original thought necessary to be an ant marching.

The only segment of vice I haven't liked so far was the one about the draught in Texas. All others were great. Their YouTube channel has some good videos as well.

Agree about the Texas drought episode.

Although for the most part they are correct about the issues at hand here regarding water regulation, they definitely took some shots at Texans, Christians and Perry.

I did hate that they chose to interview some redneck kids in West Texas who clearly would come across looking like retards, but it wasn't that big a deal. The show is one of the most interesting things I've ever seen.

Also the episode where the little b/tch hipster goes to the African fat camp was hilarious.

Oh I forgot about that one. She ate all that camel milk stuff and puked her guts up right?

Started 5 days tonight. A miniseries more than a series, but I'm REALLY liking it. Anyone else watch?

Vice's YouTube channel is pretty entertaining too.

I think six feet under is excellent and easily in my HBO Top Five with sopranos, the wire, and deadwood.

I definately recommend Six Feet Under as well, one of those shows that I didn't think id make it past one episode and it's on my all time top ten list. Boardwalk and Deadwood are definitely worth watching as well. It looks like we have both watched nearly the same series. I need to watch Oz. Treme never grabbed me. For the most part I give every single HBO series a chance.
