My 2 1/2 year old son has a Mr potato head toy and somehow made the correlation of that character to the toy story franchise (we have zero toy story characters or anything resembling it in our house....plenty of Cars and Mickey though)....
Anyways, the 3rd movie comes on and he gets really excited, so I figured what the heck and watched it withhim. Even though ive seen it before, I was shocked that I still felt myself getting emotional at the end and it surprised the hell outta me....but now I think I know why....
I think we can agree that those of us around my age (28) and older that grew up on the franchise will always be more attached because of our age when the 1st movie started and how unique a movie it was when it was first introduced. Also, the very end of the movie (SPOILERS course who hasn't seen this yet?) when Andy is giving each toy away and explaining why he loved each one was the most touching way to end the film......
However, I truly feel the VERY END of the movie wouldn't have had the same impact it did had the near death scene not been in the movie....throughout the movie the idea of family and sticking together is brought up multiple times........so that scene in the garbage dump where each character basically accepts death and instead of fighting, chose to go peacefully in each others arms becomes a huge shock.....even watching it again today to see such an adult concept, and not only that but have it done so well I feel is what brings those emotions back when the final scene of the movie takes place because of how attached we are to those characters, and having just 5-10 minutes prior as the audience accepted their death as a certainty just as they had......
Anyways.....it was a thought I had watching it today. Anyone else revisit this film since seeing it for the first time?
