I've been wanting to see this (German version of Band of Brothers), called Generation War.

Anyone know where I can find it to pick up? I'd like to also gift it. (Obviously too late to online order)

Found that it won't be out on DVD till the spring 2014.

There was a thread on it ~6 months ago (might have been in the BoB thread). It is an excellent series. Very well made and a great perspective from the German side of the war.

Finished watching all 3 yesterday.
Majority of it takes place on the eastern front fighting the Russians.
Very good series! If you liked BoB (who didn't?), then you will enjoy this German point of view.

Curious how "true story" the story is.

If you want to read a great book on the war from an 8 year old boy's perspective, read "German Boy". Darn good book.

If anyone is interested in the German Perspective, you need to read "Panzer Commander" by Hans Von Luck. He was an officer before the war even began and commanded in practically every major German theatre. A great read for nonfiction.

It even addresses the German difficulty in accepting the atrocities...

Just watched the first two, this is awesome. Very well done. Only question I had was were we supposed to recognize the collaborator hung from the tree at the end of the second episode.
