I was watching the movie with a bunch of ppl and owen wilson said this and I just busted out laughing. I'd seen the movie before but I never caught this. It's funny to me b/c the structure consists of 4 really thin poles, that are really far apart with a lot of space in between them. I mean one piece of wood, come on, that's funny...Ahhhh forget it. I can already feel the blank stares from yall just like I got from my friends

His five minutes or so in that movie is PURE GOLD...yes, I thought that was funny...along with everything else he said in it.
Too bad he's had a rough run lately.

dude...........

Meet the Parents is one of the most underappreciated comedies of our time. This movie gets funnier and funnier every time I watch it. I have it on DVD as well.

DeNiro, Wilson, and of course Stiller are all freakin awesome in this movie.

"I have nipples Greg, can you milk me?"

Also, the part where Greg walks out with that skimpy bathing suit kills me everytime, not to mention towards the end when he's trying to get on the plane and the problems he has in doing that.

yummy,

I have to second the "boarding the plane scene". It was especially funny when he steps toward the counter lady a second time and she acts like she's never seen him before and reopens his ticket/boarding pass, he then turns and looks behind him and there is only a janitor vaccuming, no signs of life

yeah, but what is messed up is once he is on the plane there are a bunch of people...what gives?

While we're knit-picking, has anyone noticed that when DeNiro is driving to the airport to catch Stiller, he changes lanes and swerves around two cars only to come back to his original lane in the same position he would have been in if he hadn't moved at all?

Maybe I've just seen this movie too many times.

he could have gotten a post like a 4x4 or something like that and cut it length wise into four pieces

That's one of his best lines.

I also liked the one about the girlfriend being a tomcat.

NO. He distinctly says he CARVED it. Plus there is a floor and a ceiling to the structure. He was saying he hollowed the shiit outta some huge ass tree.

I caught that the first time I saw it and busted out laughing. I recall being the only one in a full theater who did.

Aggie99 --

Perhaps it was a connecting flight from somewhere else -- the people already on the plane were from elsewhere ...

I thought Meet the Parents was extremely overrated.

He did say he carved it. Most people missed it, but that is truly funny.

What you have to understand is that some people don't find absurdity humorous while others do. I pick my friends based on their ability to detect these sort of things.

Wilson's role made that movie great as opposed to juse good. His line about salvaging the rafter's from on old Nantucket church was pure genius.

Well if Florence Nightengale over here would play a little defense.

My favorite subtle comedic moment is when Jinxy is missing and Greg accuses Jinxy of flushing the toilet and backing up the septic tank. The other doctor (father of the groom) looks at Greg and says, "C'mon Fokker, the cat doesn't even have thumbs." But the look on his face and the way he delivers the line are priceless. As if to say, "I'm not the least bit shocked that this family has a cat that apparently can use a toilet but I refuse to believe Jinxy actually flushed the toilet afterwards because my knowledge of the physiology differences between cat and human suggest it would be impossible. But it's completely acceptable to me that the cat still maanges to use the toilet correctly in the first place."

Htown-

I guess you're entitled to your opinion......but in this day and age when it is very tough to find good comedy, that you can actually enjoy while sitting in the presence of your family (meaning no nudity or harsh language) then you learn to appreciate the few good comedies that come along.

Yummy - you are correct about the no nudity and harsh language.

I loved Something About Mary and had heard so much hype about Meet the Parents which I didn't think was funny at all. To each his own I guess.

Easily one of the best movies of our time. I have seen it so many times and it still cracks me up just as much as the first time.

The part of the movie that kills me is when he is praying at the table. He quotes lines from Godspell's song Day by Day

DAY BY DAY
GODSPELL

Day by day
Day by day
Oh Dear Lord
Three things I pray
To see thee more clearly
Love thee more dearly
Follow thee more nearly
Day by day

Great movie.
