I read somewhere that AMC's IMAX theaters are not a full IMAX screen, is that right? Also which theaters would be considered good IMAX theaters in the DFW area (live in Grapevine)?

The only "true" IMAX screen in dfw is at the Omni theater at the ft worth museum of science and nature.

Didn't realize that. So for a movie like TDKR most any of the listed "IMAX" theaters would be equivalent?

Go watch a movie at Ft Worth Science Museum. I don't know if they show Batman or things like that. But the science documentaries will blow you away. No comparison in the screens and movie experience.

There's a real IMAX at that theater on Webb Chapel & 635.

Thats not a real IMAX.

actually, its listed on this link I provided. I've seen several IMAX movies there and it doesn't seem like the full 1570, but I guess I'm wrong.

my bad!

Is Bob Bullock in Austin a "real" IMAX? What are the qualifications?

From TDKR thread:

Here's how to tell the difference

and here's a list of the 1570 IMAX screens in the country

There's also the IMAX at Fair Park, but it's 100% educational films.

It's not considered "real" IMAX anymore since they switched to digital projection.

When it was film, it was true IMAX. Some people say if it's not film, it's not the real thing.

I have no idea if digital reduces the size of the image. I don't think it does, but I'm no expert.

last time i went to the omni theater it was a space documentary about the outer planets, and i legitimately almost had to get up and leave because i started getting the rollercoaster feeling X10. i almost freaked out, it felt too real. my buddy said i was incredibly pale and looked like i was trying really hard to hold it together. DKR in that theater would be amazing, but for awhile i'd probably lose it.

I don't care if it's labeled "true IMAX" or not, the IMAX theater at Cinemark 17 in Dallas is awesome.

i was underwhelmed with the fake imax i saw six months or so ago. i'll be seeing TDKR on the real deal imax.

The resolution of film is still way higher than the 2x2k projectors they use for liemax.
