This building in the background of this concept art piece look a bit familiar to anyone?

They both have Greco-Roman influences on their architecture. I doubt it goes deeper than that...

i'm sorry but i dont see it at all. Aside from the fact that it has a triangular top and a dome, which about a million other buildings on earth have, it doesnt look anything like the building. Maybe I am missing something here but I just dont see it.

also, where did you hear Sully was named after Sul Ross? I seriously doubt that.

Pixar hires a lot of Aggies. That's why Sully is named Sully.

I know the article says its true, but I am still pretty certain that Sully wasn't named after Sul Ross. There are a ton of Aggies at Pixar, but most of them are in more technical roles and have little, if any, input into the story development. This would include character naming, and especially naming the main character in a movie.

Also, I asked a friend that works at Pixar who came through the Viz department at A&M. He said he had never heard that before, and said he would be extremely surprised if it were true due to the reasons above.

Anyways, just my .02, take it for what its worth.

That would be at least possible though, sneaking in a texture is certainly doable.

It's always possible that a name could come from a random suggestion but I'd think we'd have heard about the actual story if that was the case.

i think they're pretty much all technical or lighting, I know of one Aggie animator at Dreamworks but that's about it. He still wouldn't get to name characters

It baffles me how many of you feel the need to be complete and utter ******bags on things like this. I came across the concept art on a film based around a university made by a company in which many Aggies are involved and saw a building that looked remarkably like our own Academic building (if you can't see it, then I can't help you)

Is it for sure modeled after ours? We probably will never know for sure, but it's at least fun to think about.

I understand how one could doubt the Sully story, but that article is part of an official publication from Texas A&M. I would hope that they would not simply print an urban legend and assume it was true.

Isn't Sully a little old for college, or is this like an animated remake of Rodney Dangerfield in "Back to School?"

If they modeled that building after ours they are terrible artists. They aren't terrible artists so that must mean you are reaching.

If you don't see how different those buildings are then I can't help you.

It's a prequel, how Sully and the other guy met I think.

And I always heard the old man from Up was designed after an A&M professor. Of course I heard that on Texags.

I think that one is urban legend, there's some mention in interviews of a concept sketch that was done of Carl early on that really informed the design process and you can definitely see the resemblance. I'm also still friends with the prof mentioned and he doesn't look that much like Carl

I also want to say that Monsters University will probably be the most excited I've ever been for a Pixar movie. Monsters Inc is hilarious, and the idea of them learning the craft at a college is pretty awesome.

Yep, according to wikipedia (which we all know is the best source of information) Carl apparently was inspired by several different 'grumpy old guys', most prominently Spencer Tracy.

It's an architecture professor. Mr. Fredrickson dresses and acts just like him in real life. (This is what I was told) Professor Rodney Hill. If you go talk to him he'll supposedly tell you about it. Someone I know walked up and said "you look just like him" and he replied "no, he looks like me."

And with the monster named after Sul Ross...they were visiting A&M at the time and they put a penny on Sully because they were struggling to come up with a name. They settled on Sully.

Those are just what I've been told by the TA in one of my mgmt classes.

Sully is a pretty common nickname for anybody with the name Sullivan.

hate to say it but this looks like a flop to me.....and that really sucks because i absolutely loved the first monsters inc. movie

it just seems too much like "cars 2" as far as how much thought is going into it....

Wow some people can't accept aggie influences where they really do exist.

Yeah, I'm actually still in touch with him. Rodney looks a bit like him but acts nothing like him, he's said he doesn't know if the story is true or not (there's actually mention of it in a thread on here from last year).
