Yes it is Kool and the Gang...
Apparently a DLR pick, but the band used to play "Hollywood Swinging" back in their club days.
The Roth-era VH always had strange opening acts. The great Baby Animals opened for them in Houston in 1984.

False. Baby Animals opened for them when Hagar was the lead singer. I was at the show, would've been around '90/'91.
I was also at the '84 show. Can't remember who opened for them, but there was no Baby Animals at that time.

For part of the 1984 tour, VH used Autograph as the opening act (their song "Turn Up the Radio" was a big hit for them), but by the time they got to Houston they had some no name band open for them. I think I remember they even play Jerry Lee Lewis' "Great Balls of Fire" to open their set.
Bachman Turner Overdrive ("Takin' Care of Business"
was the opener in Houston on the 5150 tour in 86/87, VH's first with Hagar. Had front row floor seats for that one.

I got my opening acts mixed up. It was the mighty Velcros that opened up in 1984. Seems like The Cats opened up for them for the '80 invasion show I saw.
The reason I so clearly remember Baby Animals opening in '91 was that the opening act was SUPPOSED to be Alice in Chains - I just remember all of these pissed off stoners at the concert griping about missing out on AIC for some group with a chick lead singer called "Baby Animals", ha.
Eddie kicked ass tonight at the pavilion. David Lee Roth was alright. He started off sounding ****ty, but got better as the night went on.
