No link. Just some info I received. It's reliable. I don't know if it will be in one city or if it will travel though.

I call bs. there are several other cities that rank well above Houston or Dallas in the food world that haven't been explored and I would think that they are going to use those first before coming to Texas.

Some cities to think about:
Boston
Montreal
New Orleans
Toronto

IMO, they'll do Austin before they do Houston or Dallas. For whatever reason, everyone outside of Texas seems to have this fascination with Austin, and I don't always get it.

Not a brother, but I am friends with someone on the crew.

Agree that the rest of the nation is infatuated with Austin, so I can see why the city would be chosen for Top Chef.

However, Colicchio has a Craft restaurant in Dallas. That could be reason enough to choose Dallas.

As an aside, I went to Craft NYC and Perilla (Season 1 winner's restaurant) recently. Both places kicked ass!

Austin deserves all the praise it gets. Aside from that one university located in the center of the city, Austin has great food, entertainment, and culture. There is something for everyone there.

As far as culinary pedigree, seems like Top Chef would head to DFW over Austin.

well Josepi... i hope your right and I'll eat some crow then.

Let us know about some of the events. so we can get a texags flash mob or something at one of the restaurants.

Apparently it is going to be in different cities in Texas. I was asked today what Gruene was all about, and what made it special. I have no idea if Gruene will make it, but it is at least being considered. I don't know what other locations are being looked at.

The only food that is great in Austin is the street food and that isn't what Top Chef features around.

I can almost guarantee they do something with Tim Love. He has been on Masters and regular TC a couple of times.. Maybe a campfire or wild game challenge.

I am 100% down for a TexAgs flash mob thing in D/FW. Even something as simple as all showing up wearing A&M gear.

This is not true.

And I can totally see Top Chef doing a food truck challenge.

how many chef's from Austin vs Dallas/FW vs Houston have been nominated for James Beard awards?
I would venture to say without even looking it up that in the last 3-5 years... Dallas/FW and Houston stand miles above Austin.

edit:
a food truck quick fire or elimination would be interesting.

Been there, done that.

Elimination Challenge: The chefs initially are told they were to have the night off to enjoy Miami nightlife. They discover later that they would be cooking outdoors for patrons at the Nikki Beach night club. The eight chefs drew knives to divide into two groups: Black Team (Brian, Hung, Sara M., and Tre) and Orange Team (Casey, CJ, Howie, and Sara N.). Each team was given a catering truck to use as a mobile kitchen; thirty minutes and $300 to shop; and two hours to prepare a number of "late-night" bar food dishes.

There's certainly a chance, although they kind of already did something similar in Aspen. First they had to cook fresh fish on a camping stove, and then later the protein they had to work with was elk. They've also had a camping challenge (Las Vegas maybe?) where they had to cook for a bunch of cowboys, and that French dude decided to make ceviche in 100 degree heat.

For those of you saying Austin does not measure up, culinary speaking, with Dallas or Houston should take a look at this list from Food & Wine Magazine that was published today and note how many of these chefs are from Austin.

Austin has a very good dining scene, even though there aren't a lot white tablecloth places like there are in Dallas and Houston. Anthony Bourdain interviewed the chefs/owners of Perla about the Austin restaurant scene, and the general consensus was that fine dining (the likes of Driskill Grill, Hudson's on the Bend, etc.) are few and far between in Austin, because the customers aren't willing to pay for the stuff that they can't eat (ambiance, location, etc.) They want good service and good food, whether it's served on fine china or a paper plate.

Also, Austin is becoming a huge tourist destination. That will definitely help in landing it here.

While Austin has a few good chefs, Houston and Dallas still are the top dogs in Texas and that is all I said.

James Beard Semifinalist article

You need to read the article to the end, as a couple of Austin chefs and restaurants also made the cut. Uchi and Uchiko made the list, along with their respective chefs, along with the pastry chef.

I did read the article. that is why I posted it. I respect Tyson Cole (and his underling: Paul Qui). Again, Austin has some props... but they are in 3rd place here in Texas. And the gap between 1 and 2 is much smaller than the gap between 2 and 3.

The Top Chef reunion is filming this Friday, and I have been asked to submit a few questions. Anybody have one they want to ask?

The only thing I have so far is asking Fabio to say burger. I laugh my ass off every time he says it.

Casey,

Are you single? If yes, let me take you out someone.
