quote:
PHOENIX – Standup comic Robert Schimmel, a frequent guest on Howard Stern's radio show, has died after suffering serious injuries in a car accident. He was 60.

Schimmel's spokesman, Howard Bragman, said Schimmel died Friday evening in a Phoenix hospital.

Schimmel was a passenger Aug. 26 in a car driven by his 19-year-old daughter Aliyah. Bragman said Aliyah Schimmel swerved to avoid another car and the vehicle she was driving rolled to the side of the freeway. Bragman said she is hospitalized in stable condition.

This guy was really funny, like driving down the interstate and having to pull over because you're laughing so hard funny. He poked fun at his battles with cancer and a heart attack, and it was funny because he'd tell his stories in a way that everyone could relate. I will admit that his material isn't for everyone (it was raunchy as hell), but if you like that kind of humor, he was a master of it.

Very sad to hear. I heard that he was in a car accident and he was in serious condition. I didn't realize he ended up succumbing to his injuries. Why do the funniest ones always go too soon?

Wow. I had not heard he'd been in a car accident.

The strange thing is, if this hadn't killed him, his ticket was due to be punched from either cancer or cirhosis or a heart problem. Actually, a guy like Schimmel could probably make a joke about dying in a car accident with all that going on.

I remember him appearing on Stern with his new, young wife, who was pretty cute. Everything was great. By the next appearance I caught with him they were separated and getting a divorce and she had turned out to be a pretty significant *****. But he was still funny about it.

Even though he's been around a long time, I saw him on HBO for the first time about 5 years ago. He was one of the funniest comics I have seen. Some of his jokes make your sides hurt. I've got one of his DVD's at home and watch it from time to time. The dude was funny.

Wow I didn't realize he was 60. Very funny guy and a tragic loss for his family.

Saw him at the Laff Stop in Austin back in 1990. Honest to goodness, one of the guys in our group fell to the floor laughing so hard.

Best line:

<Talking to Dad on the phone>: Dad, you're not going to believe this, but I just took a $h!t and it was black!

<Dad>: Bobby, you're not going to believe this, but I'm in a business meeting and you're on the speakerphone.

I saw the title and thought Robert Smigel. What a relief.
