On first listen, The Rose Hotel is REKs best work in awhile.
The title song and Flyin' Shoes sounds like the old days.
Throwin' Rocks is a soulful rocker, maybe my favorite so far on this album, something your date many want to dance to late in the evening. On and On's a good one, too.
10000 Chinese Walk Into A Bar - credits say Billy Bob Thornton sings on it - maybe it grows on you - maybe not.
Is There Wireless In Heaven is typical REK country, steel guitar and all, with his offbeat lyrics:
My Wife Took All My Money
And Left me For A Cop
And I don't know nobody
In This coffee shop
I'm standing at the menu board
waiting in a line
With 10 bucks on my Starbucks card
And one thing on my mind
Is there wireless in heaven?
I just want to know
Do I need a password
To log in when I go?
And does Jesus have a website
to send me my email?
is there wireless in heaven
Or do I go to hell?
Anyways, it's pretty solid. I liked it.
