Anyone seen the trailer?

I remember some discussion on here about them making a movie out of it, but never saw the trailer here...

Interesting casting. I thought Guy Pearce was going to play the dad, didn't know Theron and Mortenson were in it.

Kid is a little older than I pictured him when reading it.

Wonder who Guy Pearce is going to play?

I got a pretty good idea who Duvall's character will be.

IMDB says Pearce is the guy at the end with the family and Duvall is the Old Man.

I can't imagine how this is going to make a good movie. How do you film the terror of losing your shopping cart in the middle of the road? Absolute crushing darkness works fantastically on a page, how do you film that? I hope they pull it off, but I'm wary.

There is no way Blood Meridian can be turned into a good movie. Parts of that book made my stomach turn. Attempting to recreate that violent imagery on film is impossible. Although, I would be fascinated to see how they handle the judge.

The basement scene could make or break the movie.

I'm worried about compressing so much detail into 2 hours. I also can't wait to see if the scenery is as vivid as it was in the book. In my mind, the movie would need to be about 6 hours long to cover everything.

make the movie 3.5 hours long and try for just under an nc-17 rating. violence really isnt a problem these days is it? the last rambo probably set a record for use of hamburger meat in a movie.

I'd be all for the longest runtime possible. Not sure if they could work in the tree of babies though.

Blood Meridian simply cannot be made into one movie.

The could make it into 3, 3 hour movies though.

Part I - Nacogoches thru hooking up with Glanton. Movie #1 ends with the city riding out of the city with the scalphunters.

Part II - Scalphunting. Meeting Glanton thru the death of Glanton at the ferry. Movie ends with the Kid on the run with the priest on foot. Last scene shows the Judge and the idiot walking away into the sunset after them.

Part III - The End. Journey on foot, battle with the judge. Search for the priest. Elrod. The Jakes, and what was discovered there.

The Road was the best thing I've read in this century, and I read a lot. I'm looking forward to the movie because I know it will capture the scenery: it was filmed around Mt. St. Helen's and in New Orleans.

Better still, the movie will introduce the book to people who might not have read it otherwise.

Re: the trailer

I saw it a few months ago when it first appeared, and was very disappointed in how it was put together. Completely disregards the tone of the novel, and could mislead those who haven't read the novel as to what type of movie it is. That is, if the screenwriters have stayed true to the novel.

If the wife scenes are anything but flashbacks, and if the film gives an actual reason why the world has ended, I'm going to be fairly disappointed.

The more brutal and graphic The Road and Blood Meridian are on film, the better.

The best thing about BM is the unconvential look at the west.

I think I read somewhere that the newsclips shown in the trailer are not actually in the movie, and that no cause for the apocalypse was given in the movie.

Also realize that we're all looking at these two movies coming off of one of the truest film adaptions of a novel ever made - from truly gifted filmmakers who, after a 25 year career had the stroke to make the film their way with no (or very few) concessions to the megaplex crowd.

I haven't seen any movies made by Todd Field or John Hillcoat, but even if they are as talented as the Bros. Coen, so many other things are going to have to fall into place to make these movies worthy of mention next to No Country.

On the plus side is the fact that there's now a precedent set for what an uncompromising McCarthy adaptation can be.

A little perspective, perhaps?

Who else loved L.A. Confidential, and then had their very soul sucked out watching The Black Dahlia?

DG'88: I highly recommend Hillcoat's The Proposition with Guy Pearce, Danny Huston, and Ray Winstone.

todd field is an actor turned director and his last two films combined for 8 oscar nomintions. he has been nominated for 3.
ATHF fans may know him as ol drippy.
he is also signed on to write the creed of violence which is another western i think.

Why does it matter if they use flashbacks or not?

I'd have to say I'd be happier if Mothmonsterman was directing, but I'm willing to give Ol' Drippy a shot. I've never even heard of Little Children, and I've read a bunch of Tom Perotta books (Election, also a very nice adaptation). I'm possibly too hermit-like these days.

I'll give The Proposition a look. Ray Winstone is always worth watching.

Terrible, terrible, trailer. I don't see how it could possibly live up to the book after watching the trailer, but I did read an early review that said it was really good. Hmm.

Trailers can be grossly misleading. Usually they're edited by the studio, not the director.

There have been hilarious videos on the internet re-imagining THE SHINING as a romantic comedy, WEST SIDE STORY as a horror movie about zombies attacking Manhattan, etc. Not a second of new footage added: just editing, music, and narration.

I'm looking forward to it.
