Spoilers in the movie ahead:

Ok, so I watched bits and pieces of the Original, almost all of TNG and Deep Space 9. A little bit of Voyager.

Almost all the orginal movies, and all but last of the TNG movies.

So I watched Star Trek on Friday, and I'm confused.

Was Vulcan always destroyed in those? I don't remember that. Wasn't Spocks mother alive?

Or did they recreate the timeline for these series of movies to really go beyond what they had thought of in the originals?

As if we were part of the original timeline before it was changed?

I had to go beyond Texags to find an answer and I hate you for it.

It is different that we as a viewer experience something and then they go back and change it. I guess I didn't remember or not if Romulous was blown up and the whole, whatever happened happened montra from Lost skewed me.

And I had no clue they were rewriting it.

yes it is an alternate timeline. it says so in the new movie

When? With Spock? I must've missed it with the Lost time mantra in my head, "Whatever happened happened."

Time travel makes more sense with this.

I also find it very lazy to take a franchise and then create so that they can do whatever the hell they want with it without paying attention to what already has been done.

I guess not remembering whether or not Vulcan was destroyed was part of it. The other part was thinking of the time travel scenario that makes more sense. Whatever happens happened.

And no, I don't think that movie is worth watching twice. Too many time wastes.

The entire plot of the movie was Nero trying to change the past. It's not like you missed one scene, it's what the movie was ABOUT.

But if you can't change the past, his present time already has him doing these things.

Then he blew up Vulcan, and I couldn't remember if it always was destroyed.

So, I got what happened, but my whole Lost brain had it to where this had already happened in the other movies.

So, I am a dumbass.

And it's ****ing lazy by the people making this "new" franchise.

jj has made a $250MM movie and revitalized the franchise with star trek 12 already in pre. shove your laziness up your ass

Touchy touchy. Success does not always equal good. Yes it did revitalize the franchise, but it did not need to be dome this way.

I completely disagree. It was a smart and fairly tidy way to relaunch it.

Well, fortunately for them, most share that opinion with you. It was a good flick, may have dragged a couple of times, but good overall.

If they didn't do it this way, they would have been locked in to all known events that happened on the original timeline.

No ships could be lost, characters could die, fall in love, have children, etc. that weren't already known. The writers would be unnaturally constrained and the adventures would be dramatically boring and lacking in suspense.

Vulcan was destroyed but in the young Spock's life not the old Spock. I seem to remember the mom from "Father Knows Best" being Spock's mom on the show.

Remember at the end when old Spock said he had to go find a new planet for the Vulcan's to start their culture?

the crew was on vulcan at the end of 3 and the beginning of 4 before the giant freebirds burrito threatens to destroy earth.

This was the only Star Trek I have EVER watched and I could have answered most of these questions. You either suck at paying attention to movies or are trolling.

Thumbs down was not to the movie, I thought it was fantastic and brought guys like me into more interest in the franchise.

One question, though. Why was old Spock just hanging out in the cave if he knew there was an outpost nearby?

seriously...

why wouldnt he have gone to the outpost, and sent a message out so that people would come to try to stop nero?

Especially since he knew the future version of the guy at the outpost?

maybe he was sulking because Vulcan was blown up and didn't see any reason in going to the outpost. However once Kirk arrived he decided that he needed to take him there. He didn't know that Scott was at the outpost.

that and he had probably just recently arrived at the cave to escape the giant red cloverfield monster thing.

I can't say for sure, but was it Spock or Kirk that knew there was a outpost? I thought Kirk found out about it from his shuttle?
