Hey all I'm taking a Philosophy class and as part of an assignment we were asked to consider the following question:

What model of Ultimate Reality does the new Star Trek movie correlate with and why?

Just as a brief overview this is what the "ultimate reality" is defined as:

quote:
There are 3 models of ultimate reality:

1. There is no god, atheism.
2. God is the universe, everything is divine (Hinduism)
3. God exists outside the universe (Judaism, Christianity, Islam)

Question:
Which one of the 3 models does the “Journey” harmonize with? Defend your answer.

-- haha I've already started working on this but if any of you that have already seen the movie have any thoughts regarding this please reply in this thread. Just looking for a few serious opinions....tia.

I would vomit if a prof asked that. The movie didn't speak to theology at all. Or is this on the general franchise?

If the latter it reflects our own world with a diversity of beliefs. Your best bet would be looking to ST V even though it sucked ass.

That's not a very good question.

The good news is as the movie doesn't really delve into theology, you can answer this question however the hell you want.

Not model 1, for sure. The fact that he found Scotty leads one to believe their is some higher power.

maybe you could some how bring up fate....cause even though the entire timeline was changed with kirks father being killed when that ship went back in time, the original crew still somehow found a way to come together all on the enterprise....

....i dont know how'd you'd intertwine fate and theology with the crew still being together after the death of kirks father and the destruction of planet vulcan, but it's something

How long do you want to ignore this user?
It is very disappointing that a question like that would be asked in a philosophy class.

That's just flat dumb.

not necessarily. It's only dumb if he says that certain answers are "wrong." .

Me thinks he will do exactly that though.
