I saw the trailer when I went to see Star trek and will say it will be the blockbuster hit movie of the summer, if not the year.

I'm a huge Terminator fan, but this movie won't touch Transformers.

you serious? transformers will no doubt have tons of action and effects, but it looks EXACTLY like the first one.

terminator will completely transform the entire franchise. and it looks like it'll have good acting/plot as well. my money is on terminator being the better movie.

He can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think golferag2003 was referring to the fact that Transformers will dominate Terminator at the box office. Terminator Salvation may very well be the better movie, but there's no chance it'll make more money. Mark it down, Transformers will be the highest grossing film of the year. Avatar or Potter might come close, and either one of them have a legitimate shot. But I'm also hearing that the Avatar trailer will be premiering with Transformers - and that will be a HUGE deal - which will only increase Transformers' numbers (if only slightly).

I was referring to box office as someone said it would be the blockbuster of the year. It will not beat Transformers or even Potter at the box office IMO. Avatar has a chance to beat them all though, if its a film for the masses and not high-concept sci-fi.

If Transformers were released on a Friday rather than Wednesday, it would have a chance at a $150MM weekend. Even then, I see $150MM+ over the 5 days easy, which translates to $300MM+ in total grosses.

And on whether or not Terminator will be any good as a film...the fact that McG is attached frightens me, no matter how cool the previews have looked! For the record I don't see it making more than $225MM based on the McG factor. If it somehow turns out to be an awesome film then maybe it gets $250MM+.

I think it happens. If it doesn't, its VERY close.

Historically, poorly received films opening on Memorial Day weekend have generated 40 - 45% of their total gross over the 4-day weekend.

Using T4's estimated $56M 4-day opening, that puts the film at approximately $140M to $150M in domestic box office.

Transformers 2 opens on a Wednesday. I see it generating a 5-day opening greater than $150M. The first Transformers generated $155M over its strange 7-day "weekend", and I see the sequel being much more frontloaded than the first picture. Also, Transformers 2 will draw women due to the Shia factor; T4 is not drawing women at all.

T3 opened with $72MM over its first 5 days over July 4 2003. T3 ended its domestic run with $150MM.

T4 opened with $67MM over its first 5 days and has garnered much worse reviews. There is virtually no way it gets to $150MM.

Transformers ROTF will blow T4 out of the water, and judging by the reaction on this board to T4 as a movie, I think it's safe to say that Transformers wins that category too.

Man I really liked T3. It was campy, and pretty irrelevant to the terminator series, but taken as an individual movie I thought it was fun.

Terminator 4 blew. It was just a bad movie, plain and simple.
