Seriously why does he tack on his stupid little "Tyler Perry's _________" every time he writes something. Other people have written shows too buddy, you're not special. And on top of that, his shows are by far the worst thing on television. I really can't even describe how not funny he is. I cringe every time I hear one of those WEAK punchlines.

Totally agree. The guy sucks. He thinks he's really witty but his humor is old and tired.

i think he has done very well cornering the black movie market. it may not be what us white folk are used to but he has a very big audience that watches everything he puts out

you could say the same thing about any number of rappers, tejano bands, indie movies, or whatever. some stuff is not made for everyone.

He saw a market that focused more on representing black people in a healthier light (not everyone is a drug dealer). Then he made passable movies. His name being attached helps people to know exactly what their getting when they walk into the movie. I don't like his movies but I appreciate his marketing skill and his decision to buck Hollywood's stock black characters.

I agree that that is the secret to his success. And "cornered" is the appropriate term. His is practically the ONLY black director to make movies FOR black people that do not have them as rappers, pimps, drug dealers, ho's, etc.

Basically, he makes average movies about the average lives of average black people and his audience enthusiastically eats it up. These movies do not have controversial plotlines and do not 'insist upon themselves' (as Peter Griffin would say). As long as his audience continues to flock to his movies, he will continue to make these mediocre movies.

one of my old roommates (black guy) said that his movies were hard to understand unless you came from a black family. he did say that the tv show was crap though.

It's not that I don't like his show because he focuses on a "black" sense of humor. Point in case, I think The Bill Engvall show is horrible, an absolute waste of air time. On the other hand I really really enjoyed the Original Kings of Comedy when it came out (all black comedians).

So it's definitely not a race thing. I just know when something is not funny and the writer is totally out of touch with what humor is. Tyler Perry is NOT talented.
