Lovett's version is much slower and less fun, but it's good none the less.

Since I'm a lifelong Presbyterian, I can safely say that the mistake REK makes in that song is that most Presbyterians probably enjoyed the music, and would have enjoyed sitting and having a beer with the band.

knowing this song in high school, one of my most exciting memories was eating at the lasalle hotel.

i also spent a very long time looking for a presbyterian church on church street/his old house.

turns out he and lyle lived in it when it was condemned and it got torn down as soon as they moved out, but the guy at the guitar studio place has pictures!

Lyle's is slower but his sounds better when he sings about the sonsofbeeches, a little more emphatic.

And remembering the falling down
And the laughter of the curse of luck
From all of those sons-of-btches
Who said we’d never get back up

Speaking of which, it is much more fun to sing that stupid "Love You" song with the f bomb.

AggieDem is right, most presbyterians would have picked up a beer can and jammed with him.

his version is better than lyle's though

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Those Presbyterians that they sing about would not have had a beer or sang along.

When was it that they tore down the Presbyterian church? 2002? 2003? Don't remember. Makes me sad when I drive by there...

They tore that church down to build the Traditions dorm. I'm thinking it was 2001 (?)

I love REK, but I prefer Lyle's version of this great song!
Chewy
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Lyle nails it from a nostalgic standpoint.

I look at REK's from a frat party standpoint. His version ain't so good if you're sober.

It's amazing how different the songs with the same lyrics can be.

If you played one version for someone that had never heard it, mixed in a random song next, and then played the other Front Porch version next I bet they'd never pick up it's the same song.
