it dawned on me after I got home that maybe they give me the "explanation of what was done to my car" to get me to tip the poor sap who had to vaccuum up all my dog hair and sunflower hulls.

of course you tip at a detail place.....that is one of the places you shouldn't even have to think about tipping.

If it seems like several people work on my car then i put a tip in the usually well noticeably place tip jar, if it seems one guy is doing all the work then i hand it straight to him when i get my keys back.

this is brand new information for me. this is only the second time I have gone to one of these places. It seems like you pull in, some shyster tries to upsell you the deluxe carwash, you talk him down to what you actually want, he cuts you a fake deal, you walk away feeling violated, and in half an hour your car comes back somewhat washed on the outside and armoralled to death on the inside.

Not real sure I'm going back if they want tips, too. Why should they get tips if they are getting paid what I assume has got to be minimum wage? Why do you deserve a tip for doing your job?

I can wash my own car, thank you. I'll just go once a year to get my carpet shampooed from now on I think.

I assumed this was a nice detail place and not just one of those glorified car washed....

the type of places that clean out your rims with a toothbrush deserve tips (100+ buck detail jobs)...the other places probably don't

but you paid extra for the wash...
