Overassign??

How long do you want to ignore this user?
My niece will be arriving this fall as an overassign in one of the modulars. How does that generally work out nowadays? Do most folks end up getting a spot in a "normal" dorm situation or do they end up in overassign mode for at least the fall semester?

My sister is concerned that girls can/will be more harsh to the third girl in an overassign room. Are her concerns legit?

Thanks for any responses.

BTW...there won't be any pictures posted so don't ask. It is my niece for cryin out loud.

I had an overassign my freshman year in Dunn (95-96). He was gone after 12 days...and yes, we counted. He was nice enough, but 3 in a Commons dorm was pretty cramped. Not sure how long the average overassign stay is, but it's probably still too long.

I was overassigned at first, but by the time I got here, I had a spot.

If she's overassigned in a modular, one of the girls will get there and cry to mommy & daddy and they will go get her a nice apt. I don't think there's anything to worry about.

I've been an RA for the past 3 years, and am great friends with my former HD. I just talked to her about all this stuff yesterday.

Yes, there is overassignment all over campus. EVERY DORM. 3 to a room, people in study lounges, TV lounges, etc. However, many people have already cancelled their housing assignments, and many more will do so in the first couple of weeks. Most common reason: spoiled princess walked into her dorm room, decided she hated it, and demanded that Mommy and Daddy move her out and into Melrose or the Exchange.

If she's an overassign in a modular, she's one of the lucky ones, in that she will probably be in an actual room. I wouldn't worry about animosity towards your niece from the other two, since everyone is in the same situation. It probably won't be as cramped as a Commons room, like the above poster, but don't plan on bringing anything more than is absolutely necessary at first. Just tell your niece to be nice and friendly, and she'll probably get along with the roommates just fine. Of course, if there are any problems, the friendly RA just down the hall is a good place to go for venting frustrations.

I don't know how long she would be there, but plan on a few days to weeks, since it takes time for Housing Assignments to sort all this stuff out. It's a big campus.

TomDoss (the oldest male dorm on south side, i.e. Dunn ), the info I gave you is the most current and accurate, having heard it from the horse's mouth less than 24 hours ago. You're not going to get better info that that.

how the hell could they fit 3 in a corridor style, FHK, walton/hart dorm? there is no room at all.

3 to a room are only certain dorms (modular and Commons). Overassignments in the corridor, ramp, and balconies are going in the lounges. Lounges are also going to be used in the mods and commons as well.

not what the Dunn boys have told me for the last 4 years.

and they can't correctly call themselves the only male dorm. Appelt is there, too.

The school screwed up one year and had someone in B ramp assigned to a room even though he'd flunked out of school. They didn't catch the mistake for a year. With a loft and a couch it's pretty doable. They had to make a ghetto closet though.

Another reason why new Army sucks. They don't even learn the dorm yell correctly.

Even before Appelt, Aston was all male in addition to the corps dorms.

Tom Doss was used as an insult to Aston in particular.

then you will be interested to know that Aston and Mosher are coed.

and Reslife (cue the Ron Sassypants and Reslife sucks comments) didn't allow that yell.

I know Aston went coed, just another thing for an old Dunn guy to laugh about. I lived in Appelt for a year. But living in Dunn was the most fun I had in college. A lot more dorm unity.

We didn't care what reslife told us we could do.
