Anyone know if your supposed to pay mud tax if you are renting or is that the responsibility of the owner of the property? I've been paying the mud since I moved in.

The MUD tax is billed to the owner. If you pay your own bills you're paying water usage to the MUD. Not the same thing.

MUD

A municipal utility district (MUD) is a special governmental entity of the State of Texas. Regulated by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). The MUD's main function is to provide water and wastewater services and maintain drainage facilities within its boundaries. A MUD may collect taxes, charge for services, condemn property, operate and own park land and make regulations to accomplish its purposes.

I do not know for sure. I would think it is the responsibility of the owner unless you have some agreement otherwise with the owner or in the rental contract.

MUD = Municipal Utility District ?

I think (STRESS think) that it depends on the lease agreement on who pays. I do think the landlord is liable in the case of non-payment (liens).

I would suggest talking to a real estate attorney.

The MUD is empowered to assess taxes against the property and therefore it's owner. It's a cost likely recouped by an investor owner, but clearly billed to and the full liability of the owner. The MUD has the authority to foreclose on the property for nonpayment.
