yes he did.

Nothing can ever top when Joe Theisman referred to a player on a FG attempt as a "fudge packer" on a Sunday night ESPN game between the Bears and the Vikings many years ago. Complete silence followed until some chuckles came out. Joe said "What?! That's what they call him." The play-by-play guy (can't remember his name now) simply said, "I am not touching that one." Apparently, Mr. Theisman wasn't aware of the genreal usage of that term.

NOTE: He was referring to the player who stands behind the line and pushes the down lineman forward as they jump and attempt to block the kick.

Though it's no "fudge-packer"...

Just thought of another good one. When I was still at A&M, my roommate and I were watching an SMU game one Saturday afternoon. The announcers were obviously new to the broadcast booth and were trying hard to sound like seasoned pros. During the course of the game, the camera shows the SMU sidelines where none other than the Pony Express' own Eric Dickerson is standing watching the game. The announcer, trying to sound like an old friend, referred to Mr. Dickerson as The Dick. Realizing his blunder, he quickly backtracked and called him by his full name. We laughed for hours after that.

So what did Al just say?

Names are gone from memory, but here's the gist of it. Steeler makes an interception and rolls on the turf. The Ravens receiver (also on the ground) downs him by reaching behind him and touching whatever he can. Whatever he can happens to be the Steeler's...taint. Upon instant replay Al Michaels says "Yup, the reach-around got 'em."

My fish year at A&M I was watching a game in the Crocker lounge. I think it was tu v Colorado. The commentator was referring to two of the lineman and said "those are two tough nuts inside"

Just the other day CBS's John Roberts referred to the new judicial appointment as "sloppy seconds". See the B&P board.

Madden had one last night too. I don't remember who had the ball, but it was a rushing play and Madden was given an explanation on the replay. He said something about the linebackers filling up the running lane which was the B gap, "so he just ran it up the A hole."

How about the "A gap" smart guy!

While at A&M, I was watching a b-ball game, and one announcer said that the big man for one team was having his way in the paint. The other announcer said, obviously showing deference to the size and strength of the player, said "He could have his way with me any time."
