American Campus starts A&M project
American Campus Communities Inc. has started construction on Callaway Villas, an upscale student housing project in College Station.
The Austin-based company's 704-bed, 14-acre development will serve students at Texas A&M University. It is about one mile from A&M's campus.
Construction is set for completion in August 2006, with occupancy expected to occur in time for the 2006-07 academic year.
The townhome-style units will include private bed and bathrooms, with the project also featuring a 16,000-square-foot community center, 2,500-square-foot fitness center, tanning rooms, a mini-theater, outdoor basketball and volleyball courts as well as a pool.
"This project further demonstrates our continued innovation and leadership in the student housing industry, as we define new benchmarks in the areas of product design, site planning, unit plans and amenity selections," says Bill Bayless, American Campus' president and CEO.
American Campus Communities (NYSE: ACC) designs, develops, finances and manages on- and off-campus student housing.
The company owns and manages 25 student housing properties, containing about 16,300 beds, and provides management and leasing services at 44 properties with more than 27,600 beds that are on or near college and university campuses.
