If you go to brussels, you have to see the peeing boy statue - an definitely eat a belgian waffle

Go to Maastricht in the netherlands - and take the guided tour - it's an amazing town

In Germany do a Rhine river cruise - you get to see all the vineyards and castles - very cool - then stop at a winery and sample the white wine

In Munich go to the Hofbrauhaus and enjoy a liter of beer (if you are in germany and don't know what beer to order ask for koulsch (it means the local brew)

Also in Germany, go to the Residenz in Wurzburg - absolutely gorgeous

in Italy you gotta hit up Venice and there is a neat little town farther north called desanzano - apparently a big tourist destination for europeans

in france - yeah just get the hell out as fast as you can - didn't care for that country much (and not becuase of the people although i do hate them) it was the climate that really sucked - but i suppose you should check out notre dame and the louvre and go to the top of the eiffel - but really i would recommend going to the beaches at normandy(people there still like americans)

Ok that's it - i'm out

Haha, we have some jokers on here don't we? I'll take pics of all the bloody frenchies, I don't think they'll let me bring knives on the planes, and I'll look into the ferris wheel.

Brussels - The Royal Palace, European Parliment

Paris - Musee d'Orsay, Cathedral Notre Dame, Publicis 133 bar by the Arc de Triumphe (go during happy hour, 5-7 I think, for 5 euro tall cocktails)

Geneva - International Red Cross Museum, Mr. Pickwick's Pub (Strongbow on tap!), Shakers night club until dawn (the 20 swiss francs cover is a bit steep, but you get a free drink, that's served in a water bottle, so it's like 3 drinks).

I cannot emphasize enough the importance of the bloody Frenchies. It is vital that they be bloody and that there be pictures for documentation.

Bloody Frenchies might be okay, but it's more fun to party with them...

Munich.

I lived there as a kid and will be there next year for the World Cup.

It's a beautiful city in Southern Germany. While there you have to go see Neuschwanstein Castle, one of the most famous in the world. It was built by King Ludwig and copied by Disney. The scenery in and around the castle is breathtaking. I traveled all over Europe when I lived there and Neuschwanstein is by far my most vivid memory.

On top of that, Germany brews some damn good beer.

Do all the usual crap that Americans always do.. Musée du Louvre, Hofbräuhaus, the Coliseum, etc.

If you have the chance, I highly recommend the following - my two favorite Europe experiences:

Cinque Terre

http://www.frommers.com/destinations/thecinqueterre/0752010001.html

Dine on pesto pasta and REAL tiramisu while you watch the sun set over the mediterranean. Good times.

Mürren

http://www.wengen-muerren.ch/index.php?id=164

Take the gondola up to the Shilthorn and hike back down. Unbelievable views. Simply amazing.

Brussesl: Grand Place, Manneken Pis, Autoworld (cool collection of cars), Atonium. I just wandered around for a couple days and saw all kinds of cool stuff. Don't eat the waffles sold in the subway.

Besides the drugs and 'shows' in Amsterdam I would also recommend the Rijks Museum, Van Gogh museum, Anne Fank house, and the Heineken Experience.

AggieZee,

Sure am. Unfortunately they were knocked out of the EUFA Champions League. I used to go watch them on a regular basis and actually played a game at Olympiastadion.

Um, no. First off, the Hofbräuhaus only has three types of beer; the original, dark (dunkel), and wheat (weissbier). You can also get a beer mixed with lemonade (radler). They serve the beers is 0,5l and 1l glasses. Go for the liter! (At least one!)

Secondly, kölsch does not mean the local brew. It is one local brew that originates from the Cologne region of Germany.

If you'd like to sample this type of brew stateside, Shiner's "Summer Stock" is a kölsch-type beer. I believe St. Arnolds makes one, too. It is some yummy stuff.

London does not suck!! Its one of the most interesting, amazing cities in the world. I lived there last summer and still didn't get to see all the sights... if you'll only be there a short time then definitely tour the Tower of London, shop on Oxford Street, go through the National Gallery and British Museum (if you like history). If you'll be there on a weekend visit the Portobello market in Notting Hill and watch the changing of the guard at Buckingham Palace.

If you're going to be in Brussels, there isn't much to keep you occupied for more than a day or so. However, you can take a train to Brugges (one hour or so) and see a lot of traditional Belgian stuff... The city is absolutely beautiful and has canals running throughout. Its known as the Venice of the North and it was the city where Hitler planned to live after he won the war. He instructed the armies not to touch a single brick, so there are are several houses and buildings about 400 years old.

When you get to Paris, check and see what evening the Louvre has free admission. I think its Monday after 6:00, but its been a year. You'll save a lot of money and still see everything you want to see. I liked D'Orsay better, though. I recommend the Fat Tire bike tour (aggie owned and operated)- its worth the 26 euro. Plus, if you take the night tour you get to ride all over Paris and then take a boat down the Seine and drink wine. They meet at the base of the Eiffel tower every evening, just look for the guys with the yellow signs. If you take the train out to Versailles, remember that admission is half price after 3:00. Unfortunately, the Hall of Mirrors is being renovated so you won't get to walk through it. (unless they finished... but I think its supposed to go on until 2006).

Guten Tag!,

My hubby (agtanker95) and I currently reside in Lupburg, Germany(closest big cities are Regensburg and Nurnburg). He is stationed in Hohenfels, home of the training center of Europe. We have lived here a year and absolutely LOVE IT. We live about 1.5 hours from Munich. Munich is okay-- went there for a weekend and haven't been back except to go to the airport. Hofbrauhaus is overated, but you have do it I suppose. Just tell them you want a mass (pronounced like moss) beer. . .they will bring you out a liter of their original. The castles mentioned before are breathtaking-- don't miss those. If in Munich, Amsterdam, or Paris-- try to catch a Mike's Bike Tour (informative, and very funny). They have a website, so google away. Berlin is the best large city in Germany and we can't wait to go back this summer. "Statue of boy peeing in Brussels"???, they have a statue just like that in Prague. Heck, the little German kids have no modesty and pull down their drawers and pee at the school bus stop that is only 40 feet from my kitchen window. I haven't made it Venice yet. Vienna, Prague, and Salzburg are all pretty cool. I also second the Rhine river cruises and a drive down the Romantic Road in Germany. If you have any questions or need a place to crash, give me a shout.
