I'm here 'till 5. Oh well, at least I got enough stuff done so that I don't have to come in tomorrow afternoon.

Too bad you people didn't go into careers that allow one to better dictate their availability.

Eh, I do real estate - the harder you work, the more you make. It beats the hell out of a "you only make $XX,XXX because you're only X years out of school" job, IMO.

I had one of those for two years after I graduated and got tired of hearing "you're doing a better job than anyone ever before, but we can only afford to give you a 2.5% raise." BS, considering they said "we'll give you whatever it takes to keep you" when I turned in my 2 weeks notice. If you couldn't afford to pay me more two months ago, how can you suddenly do it now? It was great not being "on call" all the time, but real estate is a lot less stressful than manufacturing.

With real estate, I can set my own hours, but you can't get certain types of clients if you're not around on weekends. I could sit at home and scratch my ass all day, but I'd rather be up here trying to make a few bucks. Plus, by making enough in the Spring, I allow myself to take mornings off in the Fall to go fishing and hunting.

True. I think I made more posts from December of '01 to December of '03 than the entire other 4 years I've been on here!

My wife is faced with people like the old me, everyday. She busts her ass while everyone else knob-dicks around. After a year of telling all of her coworkers that she'd have a project done on Feb 1st, she STILL heard "is it really done - I didn't give you half of my info that needs to go in it!"

I told her that's her sign to slow down and start ****ing around, too. Start rolling in at 8:30, leaving at 4:30, taking 2 hour lunches, and calling in sick all the time. Her coworkers do it and her boss won't do anything to them, so why is he gonna do/say something to her. My old job was EXACTLY like hers - I did MAYBE 2 hours worth of actual work a day and I was praised up and down for it. I can't imagine how LITTLE the other employees actually did. I would have literally had to sleep at my desk to do less work than I did.
