How long do you want to ignore this user?
Who all has a diamond in theirs and what size? I've never seen one with a diamond, at least not that I can recall. Someone has offered to pay for the diamond but I'm not sure if I want one. I know they have pics on the former student webpage but it's not a pic of the whole ring. Anybody here wanna post a pic of their ring with a diamond, preferably a girl's ring, and let me know what size the rock is? Thanks!

My grandparents wanted to pay for the diamond so I have the medium sized diamond in mine...all it takes out is the stripes in the shield b/c it takes up the whole shield...you can see the diamond, but its not tacky. I have no clue how to post a picture or I would, but I like it.

Prepare to be bombarded. you'll have a lot of people come on here and tell you that real "Ags" don't put diamonds in thier rings. Do whatever you want, though. I personally don't have a diamond in mine because I don't like the way it looks. Neither does anyone in my family. But it is a piece of jewelry that you, not someone else, will have to wear for the rest of your life, so do whatever you want.

Just don't let someone tell you that you that it is against tradition.

I'd never heard it was against tradition. Some people are weird about stuff though.
My mom and step dad have them and I would advise getting one that only takes out the stripes. The less you take off the ring the better IMO. However, like Chip said, it's yours to wear for the rest of your life so do what you want.

Don't do it. Take either the $$$ for the diamond, or take the diamond and put it on something else.

I had the small diamond put in my ring. I had planned on getting the natural or rose finish with the medium diamond in it, and then I saw the antiqued with the small diamond in it in the case at the ring office and loved the way it looked. It's a personal preference. I've had other girls look at my ring and say they like it, but they wouldn't get their ring that way. Just ask to see other girls' rings when you're in class or something. Most people won't mind if you ask to see their ring when you're deciding how you want yours because we know how big of a decision it is. Good luck and congratulations!

I got the larger diamond put in. I like it, but the drawback is that it covers the shield because they mount it in a shield. If you get the medium sized one I don't think they do that.

On a side note, does anyone know how complicated it is to get your ring sized down. Do I need to ship it back or can i just get a local jeweler to do this?

For those that say having a diamond in your ring is against tradition ... did you know that having a Natural Finish Ring didn't become available until 1998. So does that mean I'm not an Aggie b/c my ring isn't antiqued?! I don't think so.
If you're getting your ring resized, send it back to Balfour or through the Association. If you take it somewhere else the warranty becomes void. It'll take a little longer, but it's better.

Get the diamond if you like it. I don't have one. Some of my girl friends have the smallest diamond ... that way it doesn't take up the whole ring.

Anything you want to know can be found at: http://www.aggienetwork.com/ring/default.aspx

I have the 10 point (smallest size for guys) and it only takes up the stripes...I'm considering getting the 20 point which would fill the shield. I like the way it looks.

However, I'm not big on the 25 and 30 points (or 10 for girls) that require a white gold mount- @ that point, I think it drastically changes the appearance of the crown...but, it's your ring.

An Aggie Ring looks good regardless of a diamond or not, i dont have one and it still sparkles

in point of fact, i did know this...and my ring is antiqued. i am a purist...antiqued with no diamond.

but my post was just a joke anyways, i really dont think that it makes anyone a bad ag to get their ring the "new" way.

i feel that it should be up to the individual...unlike abortion

Wrong. Maybe what they call "natural" wasn't available until 1998, but they have had plain gold vs. antiqued for many, many years. When I ordered my ring (Class of '93), you could get antiqued (which I did) or plain gold.

Not saying it's not a tradition or anything like that, but I know a lot of Aggies that put a diamond in their ring that now wish that they hadn't.

My uncle is considering having his re-crested to remove the diamond.

"1998 -Natural finish becomes available." That is according to The Association Website (http://www.aggienetwork.com/ring/timeline.aspx). I don't know all the logistics of plain vs. natural or whatever. I was just quoting what I heard.
I guess it doesn't matter anyways ... turns out that other guy was just kidding. I only posted b/c of what he said about tradition.

The Aggie Ring is the Aggie Ring.

I got my Aggie Ring 48 1/2 years ago. At that time we had the option of "blackened" or natural gold but everyone I knew chose the blackened in the 18 pennyweight size. I did not get a diamond because the $57 price for the basic ring was all I could scrape up. I rarely took my ring off in all those years and as a result the crest, year, A&M College and star on the side are worn completely smooth. I presume the diamond would have been gone within 15-20 years had I bought one. The old Ring is too small now to get back on over my second knuckle...I chose not to get it resized because my name is inside the bottom of the circle and resizing would destroy that (even tho Balfour said they would redo the name inside the top as today's rings are.) I have decided to just retire it because it served me well over the years...like a faithful best old friend and I just can't bear having it endure major surgery. So if I am still kicking in 6 months or so I will order a new Ring in time for my 50th...and probably go with bright gold with a 10 point diamond. I don't plan for that one to wear out.

Both my f-i-l and husband had diamonds in their rings. My husband had a size 10 ring in antique and the diamond was 28 pts..it was completely inside the shield and did not mess up the crest at all.My daughters' sizes 6 & 7 seemed too small to add a diamond though we have one for them if they want to add it.

My former boss had a .50 diamond and IMO that was too big because most of the top of the ring was diamond but he loved his ring and any Ag working summers for him during college at least returning three summers got his/her ring paid for!

Husband's newer ring is a 13 and he has not gotten the diamond added.

I got a .10 diamond in my ring from my parents for graduation. It only covers up the stripes so its noticable but not gawdy. Screw what other rude A holes may say on this site and do what makes you happy. I know plenty of old Ags that have diamonds in their rings.

I got my ring well before 1998 and I have the natural finish. Sounds like a new marketing ploy in 1998

And I do not have the diamond and think the diamond does not look good in the ring. Maybe for a girl, but definitely not for guys.

My friend has a white gold ring and it looks really good. Still very much like an Aggie ring. I wish I'd gotten it... However, my best friend has the biggest diamond you can get on a guy ring and I think it makes him look like a rapper.

I have the smallest diamond in my ring (I'm a girl) and really like it. Its only $60 extra.

My brother has a diamond in his ring. I wanted one but then I decided I liked the look of just the shield. Paying for summer school or the diamond in the ring also helped me change my mind. Either way its an Aggie ring and it looks good.

They look horrible. Why would you want to ruin the shield on the front of your ring?

I agree with NoAC....why ruin the design??

i guess somebody forgot to pass it back ags because before i ordered my ring i had never heard that REAL AGS do not get the diamond, so, as if it matters, i have my AGGIE RING with the smallest diamond, and it looks awesome!!!!

I love my diamond-less antiqued 10k yellow gold Aggie Ring. It's my most prized possession because it's traditional and I know what it's supposed to mean. It's dearer to my heart than most anything because I feel I earned it - and not just in the classroom... The way it's supposed to be.

I love each intricate detail of my ring... even if it is the 'lowest quality' ring I could have gotten, it means everything to me and I will always wear it.

Who cares if it's gold and I wear silver? Who cares if I love diamonds? I will wear my 10k yellow antiqued gold Aggie ring without a diamond until the day I die.

And it will mean the world to me.
