• Was supposed to go finish painting this AM but she is gonna go with friend tomorrow
• Work. I have lots of travel work to do today. Starting now and need to get at least 6-8 hours in.
• NCIS marathon on the tube in the background.

I'm really struggling with single-sided deafness. In crowded environments especially I tell these guys "|'m half deaf and I can't understand anything you are saying with all this noise."

And they keep on talking while I sometimes nod and smile. Guy was looking at me funny the other day so I figure I smiled at the wrong thing, or a question.

If someone tells you they are blind, do you pull out your phone and start showing them vacation pictures?

And no, I don't want hearing aids. I'd lose or break them on week 1.

I have a FB acquaintance from way back who posted about having hearing issues. Not sure if they are as serious as your issues, but he said he is using one of the Apple Air Pod products, I think it was the Air Pod Pro 2 (someone step in and correct me if they know more).

He wears them as a sort of hearing aid with some setting that lets you hear background noise I guess? In this case he's not using them while listening to music, he's just been using them to hear people talking to him and getting good results.

Do a little googling and see if there is something like that which could help you.

Other than that, cochlear implant??? Is it that serious?

Stayed up late after going to see live music last night.

Slept in a bit.

A couple of small chores and let the puppies play until time to shower and go to work for a while. Need to catch up on some stuff since I've been burning vacation.

Not sure what this evening. Wife is out of town.

Another vacation day tomorrow.

Coffee, croissants, critters fed, church.

Football board apparently surprised that Tarleton State wants to upgrade to the FBS.

Made an impulse purchase of an infrared thermometer. I've spent the last hour pointing at things to see what temperature they are.

I too had single sided deafness and it really sucks. In large crowds like you described it's almost impossible to distinguish who is saying what or where noise is coming from. In really big crowds I would start to get nauseous.


Turns out I have a condition otosclerosis which is somewhat rare in the U.S. It's most often seen in women and people who grow up without access to clean or fluorinated water. Basically the stapes bone (stirrup) becomes calcified and freezes preventing soundwaves from being transferred on. I ended up having surgery to replace my stapes with a prosthetic one which brought my hearing back up to the 96%+ range. It was 100% worth it.

• It's a not-so-lovely 105 degrees at the cabin today
• Surviving the heat because I'm working under the cabin
• I don't care if it's hot - I still made some delicious coffee

Yeah. Important business like "this bed is mine!"

Lots of house work this weekend. Sweaty. Cleaned the calcium build up from the pool tile in the hot tub section of our pool. The pool itself is OK; not near as bad.

My chemistry is off with the water or so I've learned today. I pay a pool guy but I'm not sure that's gonna continue as I learn more about it.

Had a couple cold beers once I was done. Very refreshing.

Cassie ignores the cat. I did see the cat hiss and raise a paw at Cassie when she went past it to go into the yard, but nothing came of it.

- I leave for Chicago tomorrow at 7 AM and I need to pack.
- Camp begins on Tuesday morning when I chaperone a bus load of campers from Chicago to camp in Michigan.
- I just dropped my dog off with a friend and I am very, very sad at not seeing her for an entire week!
