What's your go to beef jerky?

I find I am more partial to a dryer style jerky as opposed to something more moist. I find Jack Links to have a weird gummy like texture that I only get in a pinch.

My favorite is the original followed by the black pepper and dill pickle. For the fajita lime, I find the lime flavor to be too overpowering.

2. Hard Times

An all around solid beef jerky. I'll go with the sweet heat to mix it up sometimes.

3. Robertson's

Not as readily available and no additional flavors beyond their original line. I think this reminds me of road trips as a kid.

Honorable Mention Buc-ee's
Buc-ee's gets a nod just for the variety of flavors, Bohemian Garlic is my go to. Flavors aside, it tends to be pretty pricey for what you get.

Other than Buccees, don't think I've ever seen/heard of any of those. Must be yankee brands

Some places try to get too cute and fancy with elaborate flavors. Just regular, traditional.

Jack Links Jalapeno is readily accessible at HEB for a good price. My personal favorite.

I've tried a lot of different beef Jerky over the years. Some too thin and dry. Some too think, almost like beef steak. Fake liquid smoke smell. Too much fancy stuff like teriyaki or pepper. I prefer just a regular smoked knid, but with lots of real smoke flavor.

The one I've settled on is this:

https://www.ohlstylebeefjerky.com/

You can have it delivered. Actually, their beef sticks are far and away the best I've had as well. Usually order a batch of both. My wife avoids just about all beef products entirely because she doesn't like the smell and look of red meet, but she'll go through several of their beef sticks in one sitting. Just fuming with real pecan smoke.

Edit: I've tried all the buc-ees jerky over the years. Not sure if their quality went down, or my tastes just change, but OHL beats them for the regular smoked and it's not even close.

Bevo LGBTQ+ flaming Jerky that is closeted until right before it is sold. The most used condiment to pare with it is the food grade lubricant KY JELLY. Reviews often mention an aroma of locker room odor layered over a woodsy fecal base, Comes covered by a latex tube and discreetly wrapped in a brown bag and then consumed in the men's bathroom or taken to a frat house as a communal meal,

The jerky behind the counter at Buc-ees is really good, but their packaged stuff is pretty generic and similar to brands like Jack Links.

I used to really like the Kirkland beef jerkey because it was cheap for the big bag and good but something happened and it doesn't taste the same. Chat gpt says nothing changed but I don't believe it

I started making my own about 10 years ago with this kit from Academy, or even Amazon. It has "cure" which makes all of the difference and allows you to keep it tender and not have to dry it out.

It has been a favorite with my work peers, who almost beg me for more of my meat. Seriously, give this a try...the first time I used it, I actually made it in the oven and it was amazing! marinates for a day or two, but only has to cook for a couple of hours (it doesn't have to be powdery dry because of the cure).

I have tried all varieties of meat cuts, but a trimmed brisket flat has worked really well...smoke the point for another meal.

All four of the brands you listed are my favorites as well. I think I'd put Hard Times as my number one though.

I pretty much put 2/3 deer into jerky a year.....back straps and all. My 2 favorite store bought seasonings are the backwoods "Hot" and "Teriyaki".......get em at Academy or Amazon.

My own, personal (borrowed) recipe. So dang addictive!

Outside of that: Buccees, Readfields, Rosenthal's and Robertson's all distant seconds but better than most I've tried. As a kid, I really liked the can of fake snuff jerky.
