The breakout star of this World Cup so far has to be Freddy. The German fan documenting his journey in America (currently driving Atlanta to Houston), but he's certainly not the only one. A lot of these posts are probably pandering, or engagement farming, but there are plenty that are a lot of fun as fans from around the world experience 'Merica. Here are some of my favorites so far

So some german speaking guy following his team went to:
Walmart in Gainesville, GA
Waffle House in Cleveland, GA
Brasstown Bald Mountain Peak in GA
Bavarian Alpine Village in Helen, GA
Chattahoochee River
Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga
Down to Alabama for a game
On his way to Texas

I did that last month, but I didn't skip Dollywood and Great Smoky Mountains. And I did the reverse version in Germany after my first senior year.

Foreigners hitting spots across the US that aren't typical tourist spots are going to bend their minds…they think the US is California and NY, but it is just so much more…and when you read about their experience with everyday Americans and they are shocked, it goes to show them that we are the greatest country on the planet, and it really isn't up for debate.

Mind you, I'm not saying that everything in the U.S. is so great or anything like that, just that it really does my poor old Texas heart good to see this place through the eyes of others. It's easy to get bogged down in fighting with one another (over things that are unimportant or even made-up issues) and not see the forest for the trees. This young Dutch man who was driving a RAM pickup truck that he'd rented was on a wide open highway, driving a vehicle approximately three times larger and three times higher off the road than anything he'd ever driven before --- and was positively giddy over something that we Texans take for granted.

Watching these videos makes me feel a bit foolish, actually, for being down about some stuff that is ultimately inconsequential. Also, it appears that y'all are doing a really good job at making these folks feel completely welcome ---- which of course comes naturally to any Texan ---- to the point that some of them are saying things like "I never want to leave." When you think about it, tasty brisket sandwich at 2:00 a.m. is a pretty miraculous thing. Here's a little video that's sort of an overview of what I'm talking about.

Hahah, my son was deployed to Okinawa and took liberty with some buddies to Tokyo. He said the KFC thing is real.

My wife works for KFC/Yum Brands. KFC is very much a huge deal overseas, but Japan takes it to another level.
