Any of you people visit someone in prison?

About a year ago, an old acquaintance got sentenced to 20 years in prison.

We weren't great friends by any means but I have had the desire to try to visit him, as I'm sure he may not have many friends interested in keeping up with him.

Based on this information https://www.tdcj.texas.gov/visitation/index.html "Each inmate is only allowed one visit per weekend. "

I know his parents are probably visiting him but I don't really have any idea how to contact them to see if there is a weekend that may be available to visit him. Any suggestions? Or should I chalk all this up to "too much work" and forget it?

You should be able to write him a letter and ask about visitation and how to contact his family if needed. Depending on the security level of the prison they may have to put you on an approved visitor list but not sure.

I visit my old cellmate from time to time. It's amazing how close two people can grow, and then suddenly it's over and you're living apart.

I'm probably dumb but how do I figure out how to write him a letter? Do I just mail it to the jail with his name on it?

I have worked for the criminal justice system, in various capacities, for my entire career so this is what I can offer...

If he's still at the county jail, then that will probably work, but if he's already been admitted into the TDCJ system, start here:

https://inmate.tdcj.texas.gov/InmateSearch/start

You'll have to include his full name and TDCJ # and mail it to the unit where the above link directs you.

Several things to keep in mind...

  • Inmates, especially those new to the system, move to different units often so keep checking. There are around a couple of thousand inmates on the road every single day throughout the state.
  • In order to visit him, he has to submit a request for you to be placed on his approved visitation list, and he can only have ten visitors on that list.
  • The initial process takes time, so be patient.

Ghislaine Maxwell is in there too. She might have some connections. Ask for IDs first.
