Their food has always been disgusting. This will neither make me go there less or more as my visit number over the last decade is 0.

I have gotten swept up in their gift shop when I've stopped there to use the bathroom on road trips. Hope they don't change anything there.

We used to like the food, but we bought a big order for work people and they screwed it up and wouldn't make it right. This was close to 10 years ago, and we haven't been back since.

Going woke was a ridiculously stupid strategy. Rule one in marketing is you hold onto your core business/customers while finding a way to grow your base with new ones. You'd think the whole corporate world would have learned from Bud Light fiasco. Guess not.

Very few restaurant concepts can survive the inevitable takeover by the beancounters. I ate at Cracker Barrel for the first time in the 90's because a co-worker was raving about their breakfast. It was okay, but not a place I'd go out of my way to eat there again. Probably fifteen years later, I was hungry for a chicken fried steak, so I tried it again. Probably the worst chicken fried steak I'd ever had. The other thing I noticed on that visit was how formulaic the place seemed. Nothing looked authentic. Even for someone like me who had only been there once before, it appeared that the beancounters had ripped the soul out of the place in the name of efficiency.

The "home cooking" style restaurants are particularly vulnerable to this kind of self inflicted destruction. I'm old enough to remember when The Black Eyed Pea, under its original ownership, was just a half dozen restaurants in Dallas with authentic home cooked meals and fresh vegetables. The food was actually pretty great. The latest home cooking victim of this trend is Cotton Patch, a place that reminded me of the original Black Eyed Pea the first time I ate there several years ago, and reminded me of what The Black Eyed Pea eventually became on my latest visit.

When did they go woke, exactly? I think Cracker Barrel found that the strategy of appealing only to 80 year-olds had diminishing returns. Their profits had been declining for years before anyone uttered the word "woke." I'm not defending the new logo, but it's dumb to blame this on "woke."

So it's "woke" because… butter? First, do you have a source? Second, isn't this reduction of additives, fat, and sugar what the Secretary of Health and Human Services is advocating? How is that woke?
