If you read up on him, he was a piano performance major from Ohio State and had just moved to LA trying to break into the entertainment business. He is currently a music professor in Delaware.

Here's an interview he did years ago. Apparently, so many people thought he was a "plant", Johnny insisted on him coming back on again. They paid him union wage that time.

That was awesome!

After performing on the show, having Carson call you over to the couch was HUGE! Not all performers got to sit with Carson after performing; if he called you over, it meant "You made it, kid".
