I was told that it takes at least $1 million to get your name on a building at A&M

That's it? I should be able to manage that for myself. Would be cool to see my name on a building. However most of the ones I hung around at already has names to them. Blocker, Weisenbaker (hated that building), Zachry (loved this one), Bright, Evans etc etc.

Realistically I think it is around $25 Million and up though.

But I want to be one. And being a BM person is something we should all aspire to be.
It is likely that most BMAs were not BMAs at some point in their lives.

Imagine how many calls BMAs (or other very affluent people) get asking for donations, gifts, pledges, etc.

I'm not a BMA and I still get asked a lot.

I am in my 50s and don't care anymore about influence and connections. My wife and I will give to the university at some point, but it isn't an immediate priority.

I'd rather have a million dollar sailboat than a building! And I cannot afford that either, so that's that!

I agree, in a way. Our endowment is so large that every student at TAMU could be on a substantial scholarship. For example, the endowment could easily cover the cost of tuition for every student. (Isn't tu going to do this?)

Don't know about the administration, but the foundation will.

I know, but they can't answer some questions donors might have. Welsh would rather throw away six-figure gifts than answer a couple questions a donor might have.

Not sure that's true. Or not the experience my folks had. A few years ago my dad ('77) and mom established an endowed scholarship for the engineering school. I don't consider my parents "wealthy" per se, but their net worth probably exceeds $1MM. My folks are retired and I doubt my dad handed over a 7 figure number, certainly not right out of the gate. And this isn't him just pleading with the University to do it. True Brown spoke with them repeatedly and "courted" them (invitations to events, dinner out, football tickets, etc) and had much discussion until they reached a place where they were comfortable providing a gift.

It takes more money than common sense.

It'd be like wanting to support your high school as a 35-45 year old. And then wanting your input to determine what goes on the pre-game banners, which uniforms to wear, etc. it's a niche market for former students with disposable income, and over inflated egos.
