nai06,"Not since 1963" is correct. Back then, the Texas legislature was considering changing the name to Texas State. Some cadets appealed and the name was changed from The Agricultural & Mechanical College of Texas to Texas A&M University. The A and M are just that, for old-times sake. (Oklahoma State and Mississippi State were Agricultural & Mechanical before names were changed to State.)
