Narcos is so good, though I read that native Spanish speakers find the accents all weird since many of the actors are non Colombian. Wagner Moura who played Escobar is Brazilian.

I worked with a guy from Columbia when it first came out and he refused to watch it because of that.

My FIL is Colombian and he really hated the accents especially the guy who played Escobar. My wife thought it was weird as well.

Never thought of that.
Would be like having Daniel Day Lewis play Abe Lincoln with his Irish/English accent.

Narcos is great, but I quit after Season 2. That was a slower burn but ended up being great as well.

My immigrant Hispanic dad thought the accents were fine, but hes also not from Colombia lol. If you want a more authentic Escobar with local Colombian actors and Colombian accents/slang, watch Patron Del Mal on Netflix. Its also a better show than Narcos IMO.

Glad to hear you all think Narcos: Mexico is good. I'm almost at the end of Narcos Season 3 (weakest season yet imho) and was wondering whether to move on to that one.

I wouldn't call myself fluent, but I can get by in Spanish. And there is some weirdness in not just pronunciation but dialect.

An example was inconsistency in patron vs jefe. I can count on one hand the number of times I used patron in real life. I understand why the underlings used it, but then they'd use jefe in some situations too.

I always thought Tata was the dumpiest of all the girls. Stephanie Sigman, I posted above. The biggest highlight of Season 3 was Andrea Londo. OMG.

The Narcos Colombia accents are weird and off putting for native speakers. However, Narcos Mexico is better storytelling AND they nailed the local accents/mannerisms.

I would imagine finding Mexican and Mexican-American actors in the US is a lot easier than finding Columbians

I'm trying to imagine, say, one of the Wahlberg brothers with full Boston accent playing someone from Texas, or anywhere else in the South. God that would be grating.
