Have you ever had Braunschweiger?

I love me a braunschweiger sammy on toasted French bread with a little mayo. Not something I usually have around the house but the bologna sandwich thread got me thinking about it.

First time I ever tried it was in Germany and haven't been able to find the one that tasted like it here. It's definitely good though. But I also grew up on potted meat sammiches and enjoy them to this day so my judgement is questionable.

I've been dying to try some Mettbrötchen but no luck finding authentic so far. Which I think is in the same category of Braunschweiger. I know there is something similar called parisa down in central Texas that I keep forgetting to hunt down when I'm in that part of the world.

It's decent in small doses. Couldn't do a whole sandwich of it. But when my dog was recovering from tplo surgery last year and taking tons of pills braunschweiger was the only thing we stuff his pills into that he wouldn't refuse. He started refusing cheese n peanut butter, lunch meat. But that braunschweiger got the job done.

That isn't questionable. It's terrible. I wouldn't feed potted meat to a dog.

Gelbwurst sandwiches are pretty good. My great parents came from Bavaria Germany & till this day still make the various homemade Bavarian sausages & meats.

Yeah! That stuff. Looks awesome and so different from norm that the foodie I am HAS to try it at some point.

I'm jealous of yall with rich heritages and culture and whatnot. The central Texas Czech/Pole/Alsace/German culture mix has always fascinated me. I want in damnit!
