A hot dog without a natural casing. Most of the hot dogs at the grocery store are going to be skinless

Cause that's what they are called?

Like that's the actual category of food product, skinless hotdogs/franks. It will even say it on the package sometimes. Skinless franks are cooked in cellulose to give it the shape and then removed before packaging.

I'll grant you that neither hot dogs or grilled cheese sandwiches are American inventions. But I feel like we've done a pretty good job co-opting them.
