You aren't a real country fan unless you complain about current country music

You think a bunch of adults wearing hokey outfits like jackets with fringe or cowboy hats inside are a joke?

Weird.

Roger Clemens is fat ****ing *******. Who was the country music / porn star that he cheated on his wife with? I'm pretty sure she's dead now.

You know what it is. CMT is the country version of MTV. Only been around for about 40 years now.

George probably didn't want an opener who would put on a better show than him. Why else would he have Parker McCollum, who is terrible.

lol - I was certainly joking. i've heard one jelly roll song. i'm not sure he's really country music.

edit: after hearing second song, I'm certain he's not country music.

i just had it on in the background with the sound off because i wanted to see how austin would handle it. i think they used the moddy center and austin city limit sets? i watched the tribute to Toby Keith which I thought was nice.
i think calling jelly roll country is stupid though. they don't even play him on the country stations here. that's like saying beyonce's new song "this is texas" is country. it sounds somewhat like country but it's more pop. she'll probably win it next year lol.

It's a weird and made up award show (but I guess they all are). We watched a few minutes to see who was performing and I just kept asking my wife "Is CMT even still a channel?" and "Do they still play country music videos?" to the point she got sick of me asking. So we turned it over to sports.

The other thing that bugs me about country awards shows now is that every performance has to be a collaboration between the country artist and some pop/rock/hip hop artist. I assume this is because of the sensation caused by Chris Stapleton and Justin Timberlake a few years ago but the concept has gotten tired.

Where do you live? The country stations in Houston play him non stop. Plus he just had almost 75k people show up to his concert at the rodeo. There isn't much difference between genres in mainstream music today, most of it could be played on any pop station

The overall show last night was exactly what I expected, over done Nashville pop-country crap.

The part that irked me, for whatever reason, was when they did the Toby Keith tribute and of Roid Rage Roger brought a baseball out with him, WHY? Then they sang the Toby songs with their own twist on them...Brooks and Dunn were TERRIBLE and Laney Wilson singing "How do you like me now" from a female's perspective and changing the genders of the people in the song. That isn't a tribute IMO, sing the song like they sung it, don't wreck it by changing everything

Had exactly the same thought about Laney Wilson changing the gender. When Luke Combs covered 'Fast Car' he didn't change any of the lyrics and it didn't bother me at all that the song is from a female POV.

Also, Laney is starting to get Ozympic butt.

That was the Country version of the MTV awards. It was all about the music videos.

Not directly related, but I have a similar gripe with Beyonce's cover of "Jolene". The song is about a woman's feeling of helplessness and insecurity in the face of potentially losing her partner to another woman. The updated lyrics turned that on its head into a "stay the **** away from my man or I'll cut you" song. There's already a great country song in that vein - Loretta Lynn's "You Ain't Woman Enough". Why not just cover that?

Ew it was in was in Asstin? Why? That place isn't even remotely "country".

I've abandoned "country" music for a long time. It's been absolutely garbage for decades.

Well, I was drunk the day my Mom got outta prison.
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But, before I could get to the station in my pickup truck
She got runned over by a damned old train.
