Maundy means "the ceremonial washing of the feet of poor persons in commemoration of Jesus' washing of his disciples' feet", so if somebody asks you if you want your feet washed today, you can probably be a little less concerned about it being some weird kink than normal.

Grew up Southern Baptist, they never used the word "Maundy." I get what happened but the term is something I'm not used to hearing.

I Christian wouldn't use the terminology in your first sentence.

A Catholic would because the "license to sin" gets renewed every time you talk to a guy in a booth behind a screen and say a few Hail Marys.

Also, "put no other Gods before me…", yet the Pope worship and Mary worship continues for ages.

Grew up Southern Baptist, and it was called "Holy Thursday".

Brisket on for Saturday lunch at my sister's. I hate cooking, then reheating a brisket.

I was raised a southern Baptist, heard the same stuff growing up, and converted to Catholicism when my second child was born. Went to Mass with Teacher Wife '82 for years before attending RCIA and finding out the anti-Catholic ignorance I was exposed to in my younger years was just that - ignorance. Now I just shake my head and hope they seek and find the truth.

Strike 3. You're on a roll……

https://www.catholic.com/magazine/print-edition/let-the-children-come-to-me

Exactly what difference does it make to you how different Christian denominations worship? I can't say as I've seen any Catholics on TexAgs (granted 5 or 6 years isn't very long) come out and criticize other religions the way the Catholic bashers attack on here. It's really sad.

You seem to be a better poster than this, so I'll just call "troll" and move on. You can always take it to the R&P board for a more detailed explanation.

We had Maundy Thursday services at the Southern Baptist church in Houston where I was a member when I lived there. They still do, in fact. It's a solemn, humbling service.

TBF, many of us have ancestors who were slaughtered by Catholics like my French Huguenot ancestors. The Inquisition left a nasty taste in their mouths so many pulled stakes and headed for Holland and then America.

Confession of sins and repentance are actions Baptists impune and ridicule? God doesn't forgive any sin without true remorse and intent not to sin again. He knows our hearts. That is true Catholic theology as compared to ignorant rants of a bigot that gets their facts from "The Trail of Blood" or other anti-Catholic propaganda.

I never claimed to be Baptist.

But I think the extermination of those you find impure over hundreds of years to be a little beyond the "sorry. Was that wrong? Should I not have done that? Please forgive me" level.

From Latin mandatum which we would say as mandate. This term is more commonly used by Anglicans and Presbyterians, I think, as Catholics refer to today as Holy Thursday. But it comes from Latin mandatum to French mande to Old English maundy. When Jesus commanded we love one another as He loves us. The example being the act of washing each other's feet.

Catholics alive today are not responsible for the sins of people that murdered and abused others for power and wealth in the name of religion. Nor have I ever heard any Catholic try to justify those actions. Those individuals are not protected from judgment. I don't consider anyone "impure". Are you trolling?
