I have a very nice oak in my front yard that had gown too quickly and developed a 24 inch split down the middle Y. I had some tree people come out and they said they could put a spar through it, but there were no guarentees and wanted 500 bucks.

So...I got a large bottle of Gorilla Glue, weted down the split and filled it with the stuff. As GG dries, it expands to create it's own pressure. Presto, the Y split is now cemented rock hard and doesn't even flinch on a windy day.

Very cool stuff! I'd might have to rate it right up there with WD-40 and duct tape.

Is there something nasty hidden in this thread, or is it me?

Thanks for the info. I have a tree in my front yard that needs something like that.

My folks had one of the trees in their yard get struck by lightning a few years back. a fairly substantial chunk of the tree got knocked off. So pretty much as soon as it stopped raining we tied the branch up to the back of his truck and rigged a tag line-esque system to hoist it back into place. We bolted the branch back in place with some long 1/2" & 3/4" bolts and duct taped the hell out of it. A year later you couldn't see the crack and now you can't even see the bolts. I was up in the tree trimming it over Easter and the bolts are completely grown over with bark.
