How terrifying would it be to die a slow death from running out of oxygen in a tiny submarine?

Probably a different sort of terrifying than being crushed to death by some pressurization malfunction. Yet still terrifying.

With the slower death, you have time to consider that someday a group of tourists pays big money to come look at you.

You can now pay to see the Titanic, and the sub of the unlucky who were doing the same thing. 2 for 1

At least if the hull failed, you'd be dead before you realized what happened.

This is why I prefer to sit on a beach with a cold drink in my hand and do nothing on my vacations.

Running out of oxygen would just put them in a euphoric state as they eventually fall asleep.

CO2 is not CO.

+1

At this point in my life, for me, a lot of experiences just don't satisfy the juice/squeeze dilemma.

Sure, I admit that many of experiences like bungee-jumping into some canyon, sky-diving, etc would/could be exhilarating and a once-in-a-lifetime experience. But, I'd prefer to just "imagine" the experience or see some video of it and stay alive.

Had to be a hull breech or entanglement.

Can't imagine the didn't have an emergency system where they could shed weight and rise to the top?

Got and ex-sub guys on here that can give us some expert thoughts?

This is one of those deals where you assume people are generally competent, especially when dealing with life or death stuff. But most businesses and tech are run by idiots.

Some stuff from this reporting is wild.

Also how was the sub not equipped with a basic locator beacon? I don't understand why it should be so hard to locate them.

This wouldn't have happened if they had been using an N64 controller.

Toucan is a good name for a submarine or a submersible.

Lets assume it failed intact, sank to bottom, and they run out of oxygen. Then we can send a vessel down, drill a hole, and fill the sub with clear resin to preserve another great $250K a trip tourist destination.

Well......those trips to the moon or mars sure seem less appealing now.

Something about this just doesn't pass the smell test for me though.

I bet it smells real bad in that tube if the hull is still intact
