Our almost 2 year old has been sick and working hard to breathe since Sunday. He went to the pediatrician Tuesday, and they said he probably had something viral causing inflammation in his upper respiratory tract that was making it hard for him to breathe but that his vitals seemed fine. They gave him an oral steroid to help with the inflammation which helped for a day, but he hasn't improved a whole lot beyond that. He went for a follow up this morning, and they decided he needed to go to the ER. They did some things there that helped a little, but the ER docs decided to admit him. His blood oxygen has been good the entire time and there's been plenty of times when he's felt great, but now he's really tired and kind of struggling.

Thoughts and prayers for quick healing and recovery would be deeply appreciated.

I'm so sorry. Our youngest got pretty sick when he was about that age and ended up hospitalized. They're tougher than we think at that age.

My daughter had RSV at about that age and we were very scared for her. They put her in a special tent for 5 days and she came out as good as new. I hope your little one improves quickly and completely.

Praying for a quick recovery! My kiddo has reactive airway and even though we've been to the ER and hospitalized several times with breathing issues, it never gets less frightening.

Finally at the hospital with him. Had to pick up things from the house, dinner, and grab our oldest. Mom's been here awhile with him (she's the real MVP). He's doing MUCH better and is sleeping. Still not 100%, but it's not the fast, labored breathing of this morning.

And respiratory stuff is difficult when the kid's body doesn't respond.

He tested positive for paraflu. Apparently it's usually not a big deal, but his inflammation was abnormally bad. The meds he's gotten have really helped. The wheezing and stridor are almost gone. We're hoping he continues to do well overnight and is out tomorrow.

That's excellent to hear. I hope all goes oothly overnight.

Prayers. Before discharge, ask for assistance having supplemental oxygen at home so you do not have to wait for the 7 minutes (average response time) of an ambulance prior to giving kiddo a treatment.

Glad they figured out what it was. Praying he had a great night and can go home today.

He's doing much better today and just got the all clear to go home once he wakes up from his nap! Can't thank the doctors and nurses who looked after him enough, and thanks to all of you for posting and thinking of him!

My daughter had almost the same thing about 7 years ago. Watching tv, and she was gasping as if she had just run a race. My wife thought we should take her to the ER and she was admitted. Toughest and most sleeples 5 days in my life waiting for something to give. But our ending was like yours, a good one.
