I prefer my desktop (I work from home). Nice big keyword with 2 big monitors, bliss!
I don't like laptops for work. My company gave me a nice new Mac but I just use it for access.

Love iPad for idle surfing.

What are your choices?

Laptop because I work from home, but also can work anywhere remotely. I can still have an external keyboard and monitors at home, so a desktop offers no benefit and has more negatives.

Laptop. I have a dock + 2 monitor setup with external mouse & keyboard at both the office and home office.

Obvious answer +1. I don't know how people do full time work on a laptop other than its not really work... It's usable when needed for travelling but so much more capable when on a dock.

At home, my dock is plugged into a KVM so I can have just one set up at home and switch with just a button.

The last thing I want to do is hurt you. But, it's still on the list.

Agree with all. If I have to pick one, it's laptop with docking station and monitors. Although difficult to fully do my job just on the laptop, I still have some functionality if traveling with it. Can easily unplug and take it to a meeting as well.

All that said, I have a desktop I use at home so I can leave my laptop at work.

My entire firm is plug and play. I can go into any office/cube/workstation, plug in my laptop, and the dock/monitor/mouse/keyboard setup automatically works. Only work in a "true" laptop situation when I'm in a hotel room or on an airplane.

at a previous job before work-from-home I liked the desktop because it meant it stayed at the office.

At work (high school chem teacher) i have both a chromebook & a PC. Prefer the PC for time consuming work because it's faster & dual monitors are a must. The chromebook is for running Slides at the front of the room & taking attendance, and for bringing home on the few occasions i need to do work at home. Now I need a PC at home with dual monitors & I'll be set.

Desktop. Work stays at one spot. Can't creep into other places. Boundaries. I've worked from home since 2002-2003.

Unless you built it yourself for gaming, there's absolutely nobody who should own a desktop in 2023.

Or high def video editing, big data analysis, etc.

There are plenty of commercial applications that require some serious horsepower and cooling that you just can't get in a laptop. But yeah, I don't see any reason for anyone to need a random dell or HP desktop that costs a few hundred bucks.

I prefer desktop when I'm in the office or working from home. I have to travel to client sites several days per week, so I end up doing a lot of work on my laptop.

This for me. Pair of 32" at work and pair of 24" at home.

I have a huge monitor at work but if I work from home I use a 16 inch laptop. The work I do at home takes time but not all of my attention so I usually do it while watching a movie or a tv show.
