I'm gonna say "no." It was the '70s, and song lyrics were by necessity more ... creative.

Many years ago, a woman I knew was the manager of an upscale women's clothing store in Nashville. She said that Conway Twitty was the ultimate gentleman: kind, generous, funny, polite.......which is one the reasons she would allow him to come into her store after closing on Thursday nights so he could try on women's clothing (he paid for everything he tried on).

I think that was part of it. He started singing in the 1950s and performed until his death in 1993. In almost 40 years he barely updated his image and had those creepy sideburns almost the entire time. Plus men in their 50s singing songs about how they want to do sex is kind of creepy.
